Ooh. The sun's out in Sussex, so a prom along Worthing's seafront seems in order. I can pick up some dates too. The dried fruit. No, that's still not helping. Errr .... ingredients for a sweet dish.

Geophysics, computational science, engineering. That sort of thing. Pretty specialised field. Beautiful morning here too. Get the shopping done for the societal parasites (older people) the off touting for business for the band, I think.

In other news, my son is a named contributor to a serious academic paper published today. Didn't understand a word of it. Not a word. If you didn't understand one word... Was it written in another language?
I tried reading a friend’s maths PhD thesis once in Oxford. I understood some (not most) of the words, but didn’t understand any of them when put together into sentences.

I had a couple of papers published once, on approaches to Palliative care, got a buzz out of it at the time, but quickly realised the shear amount of academic papers published and only the outstanding ones actually matter and are used as future reference material. I'm in no doubt mine have never been quoted in newer work.

As I came to this morning, having been gently woken by the morning chorus and the sound of birds rioting in the trees, I became conscious of a particularly pure double tweet. I was struck by how regular and consistent this song was, and began to count off the intervals: 24 or 25 seconds apart.
I was just about to expound the miracle of nature to Mrs B, when she pointed out the the CO detector needed new batteries ....

Is Mrs B really a nurse in the care home?

Been a stunning weekend here, got the bike ready for riding season and set up the chick brooder, have a fresh batch of chickens hatching, probably Friday.
Rain due for the rest of the week here, but I never mind it raining when I'm at work

Flew home from Charleston early on Friday. My first flights on a 737 Max8 and I survived them both. The overhead bins were an improvement but I found nothing else remarkable about it. Came home because Charleston was going to have crappy weather. San Diego did too. Got out for a bike ride early yesterday before the weather hit. Went to the brewery for the start of today's ride and only one other guy showed up and he bailed out because of the heavy showers and 20mph winds which gave me an excuse. They all went back for beers but I decided I hadn't earned them so have been doing boringly useful things all morning instead.

One of my dogs killed the Easter Bunny this morning. I hope you'll be roasting it and serving it on Sunday. We have made a tradition of eating rabbit on Easter Sunday. Some people weirdly think we're wrong in the head.

It's a beautiful spring day here but the BBC weather app says it's raining.

Agreed. It's absolutely roasting here in Harwell.
The female PhDs are out in force in their short skirts, but then so is the lollipop lady outside the campus creche, happily airing her varicose veins. We're having a site-wide barbecue at lunchtime, where Carlos Santana and Stephen Stills are touted to provide the music, Anthony Hopkins will perform the Steward's monologue from Macbeth, and there is a rugby invitational in the afternoon between the Barbarians and Oxfordshire Farmers Veterans Seconds.
So the Beeb can just knock it off with all that "Light rain and moderate breeze" b*ll*cks.

While you're distracted by all that hippy stuff, an invading force from Cambridge Biomedical Campus will be on it's way to put you in your place as Britain's No2 research community.

They've arrived already, and most of us are engaged in flash-mobbing Matthews Southern Comfort's Woodstock. "We are stardust, we are golden ..." Peace 'n' Love, man.
