Nice to see that Katie Hobbs appears to have beaten Kari Lake, which means that almost every even mildly competitive major race with an election denying Republican candidate has been won by the Democratic Party.
And I’m almost pleased that a bunch of seats in the House are getting called for Republicans. There was a lot of desperate stuff from hopey left-wingers who somehow saw a magic route to a small majority. It was annoying and was never going to happen. Also, a small majority would have been a recipe for a complete sh*t-show. As it will be for Republicans. Already Don Bacon - Republican from Nebraska - has been talking about finding a majority to support a moderate middle-of-road speaker rather than let a loon like Gym Jordan have it.

while its good Lake and many other election deniers lost, over 120 others were elected to the house and state offices. Democracy is far from assured, far too many in the GOP are still working to end it.

So quite a hilarious thing happened today, a bunch of GOP loons in a place called Cochise country Arazona has refused to certify the election result in their heavily republican district, not cos they think there was any fraud, but cos they believe by refusing to do so might throw out the entire states election. Amusingly if they continue to refuse by Dec 8th non of the votes cast in their country would count and several statewide races will be flipped from Republican to Democrat.
Not the brightest bulbs in the pack, the right.

It should be noted that hilarious though Voice's scenario is, loads of people are in court forcing Cochise County to certify their results. Ironically, it's a load of Democrats who support the proper functioning of democracy, even though it might actually gain them something to let this run out. Cochise know they can pull this sh*t to perform as "opposed to the running of the election" precisely because of the safety net provided by the adults.

Fantastic result, that. This is the first time since 1934 that the President’s party hasn’t lost a single senate seat in a mid-term.
It makes little difference legislatively - the Republicans have the House so they will stop anything getting done. But it means that all Biden’s appointments will get through - unless both Manchin and Sinema want to block them, which is less likely that just one of them doing so. It also means the committee system runs a bit smoother because all committees now have a Democrat majority rather than equal numbers and the chairman getting the deciding vote. Not huge deals, but it makes life a bit better. Mostly, it means that there’s a tiny bit of a buffer in 2024’s election where the Senate map looks very tough indeed for Democrats (23 of the 33 seats are held by Democrats - of the remaining 10 Republicans it’s very unlikely any are winnable by Democrats, the closest being maybe Florida, then Indiana, Missouri and Texas; but lots of Democrat seats are vulnerable - particularly if it’s not a good year: West Virginia, Montana, Ohio, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota).

In the final chapter of the disastrous midterm election for the GOP, they are tearing themselves apart on the floor of the congress at the moment, Kevin McCarthy is loosing vote after vote to be speaker, the traitor caucus looks intent on destroying their own party. Nothing like this debacle has been seen for over 100 years.
Marvelous, absolutely marvelous.

McCarthy will still end up as speaker. But it's a very entertaining way to get there. It's also a reminder that for all her myriad flaws, Nancy Pelosi was very good at caucus management.

Well after 4 days and 14 humiliations McCarthy finally gets to become speaker, probably the weakest speaker ever, and in no state to govern. The traitors caucus have the whip hand over his every move, expect 2 years of utter chaos where nothing of note gets done.
Still the midterms are now over.

Every Republican now knows that McCarthy has a spine of seaweed. They know he’ll bend to every tiny threat or hint of a threat. So he’s already ceded all his power and will have no influence at all. Every marginally pissed off Republican can make it all come down. It’s going to be mostly hilarious for the next two years, except at those points where the government needs the debt ceiling raised or government funding to continue, at which point it could become existentially threatening to the US government.
It’s a shame that full Democrat control last year didn’t fix that permanently rather than giving these idiots leverage to try and blackmail the entire US population.
