I now others have thanked Foxy and the management team for their efforts, but may I extend my gratitude to them for allowing me to continue frittering away my time in debate with such a fine collection of loons, cranks, bigots, losers, perverts and wierdos?
Thanks, good work.
Now, let the slagging begin ......

Three quick things I have noticed:
1) The animated avatars are very distracting and likely to induce epilipsy (foaming at the mouth is quite normal here.) 2) NewYorker's avatar is fantastically homo-erotic. 3) There's a great selection of smiley icons - but why no "mong" face?

I'll third the thanks.
But, in the tradtion of News being a place to whine and moan, I'll add
- I still hate avatars - I hate signature lines even more - I'd like to have really, really long post titles. These seem to be very short - The thread title thingy above every post is a bit tiresome - I'm meant to be working, and am still wasting time here.

I do like being able to change my name really, really easily, though.

Yep. Work's a bit flat, although it's been a slowly increasing trickle since about June, and it seems to have picked up a fraction more since Christmas, at least in terms of enquiries. I'm pretty broke right now, but there's a chance we'll get through.

Oh well, that sounds a bit more encouraging. You'll get through it I'm sure.

Is there any way to limit the number of posts you can do in a row...?
Oh yeah and this probably isn't fixable but having the launch post at the top no matter how many pages a thread goes to was a handy feature of Old News.

Oh, and to continue the churlish critique: can we have a "return to General" button at the bottom of the page?

A bit more encouraging. The question is whether I bale out, though, Baloo. I'm a bit bored by the work, and I'm still basically living mostly off the gf's income right now, which makes both of us a bit uncomfortable, so I may choose to try and see if I'm employable elsewhere.

Yeah, tricky one, but all the time you've got a job and the prospect of an income, you should hang on to it. By all means have a look around but beware of the greener grass syndrome.

You can disable the avatars in the modify profile bit. I'm going to have a look at how gay everyone's are and then disable the buggers when I've had a good scoff.

hello and welcome to the slagfest! thanks for all the thanks btw, much appreciated! Avatars, signatures, images are all hideable - see the post about Avatars in the Hints and Tips section for the lazy here it is If you prefer low graphics and don't want to see any avatars, signatures etc., you can modify your own profile to hide them. Click on Profile at the top of the screen, then Modify Profile. Scroll down and you will have the options to:- Show Signatures: Yes/No Selecting "No" will make it so that no signatures are displayed to you at the bottom of posts.
Show Avatars: Yes/No If you do not wish to see the avatars of other users on this forum, select "No."
Show Images: Yes/No If you wish to disable all images on the forum, select "No." All images will be replaced by a text equivalent, and you will be able to browse the forum faster.

How about the YouTubes?
If I select "NO" in the "Show Images" box will that get rid of the pesky videos?

Are you a cartographer by training Andy? I'm not really anything by training, Baloo. Degree in physics then sort of fell into what I've been doing ever since, and everything I've learned has been on a very ad hoc basis, a bit of 3D graphics, a bit of programming, a bit of remote sensing, GIS, cartography, a bit of sales and marketing sort of stuff (although I'm cra p at it), a bit of image processing photoshoppy sort of thing, some TV video stuff. Very jack of many trades, master of none.
