"NASA's MAVEN Mars probe safely brakes into orbit""Ten months and 442 million miles outbound from Earth, NASA's MAVEN spacecraft fired its braking rockets Sunday to slip into orbit around the red planet, kicking off a $671 million mission to find out how much of the martian atmosphere leaked away in the distant past in an extreme case of climate change." "What a night! You get one shot at Mars orbit insertion, and MAVEN nailed it tonight," said NASA project manager David Mitchell. www.cbsnews.com/news/maven-mars-probe-closes-in-on-red-planet/"India puts satellite into Mars orbit"NEW DELHI -- "India triumphed in its first interplanetary mission, placing a satellite into orbit around Mars on Wednesday morning and catapulting the country into an elite club of deep-space explorers." www.cbsnews.com/news/india-puts-satellite-into-mars-orbit/

There is more chance of the Indians or the Chinese setting up on Mars first than NASA these days NASA could be the first, but the politicians won't allow it. NASA is being dismantled. The future of space exploration is for everyone but the U.S.

I've said it before. Space exploration is for the North Koreans to organise. Just wait and see.

no nation that has a voter population conditioned to only vote for tax cuts is gonna have a meaningful space program, space is fecking expensive and while in some way NASA tendering the shuttle replacement to the private sector sounds great, we all know profit will trump safety.

no nation that has a voter population conditioned to only vote for tax cuts is gonna have a meaningful space program, space is fecking expensive and while in some way NASA tendering the shuttle replacement to the private sector sounds great, we all know profit will trump safety. We could increase tax rates 100 times and NASA would still be dismantled. Space probes like Curiosity and MAVEN are the last gasps of a program coming to an end. Perhaps I didn't explain clearly enough. WE DON'T CARE ANYMORE. We are content to be nothing but a nation of navel gazers.

"NASA mission finds widespread evidence of young lunar volcanism""The new information is hard to reconcile with what scientists currently think about the temperature of the interior of the Moon." "NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has provided researchers strong evidence the Moon’s volcanic activity slowed gradually instead of stopping abruptly a billion years ago." "Scores of distinctive rock deposits observed by LRO are estimated to be less than 100 million years old. This time period corresponds to Earth’s Cretaceous period, the heyday of dinosaurs. Some areas may be less than 50 million years old." tinyurl.com/okwsl8l

In what universe is that a "football shaped" inclusion? Sheldon Cooper might have the answer to that.
