Should failure to help a person in danger be a criminal offence in the UK?

Nope. I reserve the right to leave anybody I don't like in any situation that may result in their death or injury. Thingy them. Like a gestating canine.

Was thinking of Boris's injunction to Londoners to stay out of it. I'm not sure I'd want to be criminalised for thinking "Eschew that for a lark, he's got a knife" or whatever.

It's never a short story. You find some kid in trouble, save him, he grows up a bit and kills someone whilst mugging them for their mobile phone. By which time the kid has also fathered a couple of new ones to grow up and do the same.
This is the kind of pessimism that lack of decent society does to me. Nowadays if I read about some kid being let down by social services and being killed I reckon that it's no real loss at all. I don't think I'm being heartless, just pragmatic.

Not a nice way to go, but accidents do happen, it's only luck if one survives.

I think we should have the choice as to whether we help or not, surely that's a basic human right?! The death of the girl was very sad, but i wonder had she been sober/not been drinking, would the outcome have been fatal?! Having said that, it's a tragedy - her poor family. I bet her friends feel guilty too.

brought it on herself, she bears the responsibility, it cant be right to expect others to risk their lives to save the stupid
