Don't replace the cartidges, replace the printer and get new cartridges each time Having seen the cost of the Ink Set in Tesco's this week - £49.99 - you may just be right. We are running a business from home and have to print out invoices, scan documents etc.etc. It's costing a small fortune that we could well do without tbh.

If you cant use generic cartridges then you'd certainly be better off buying a new printer. They cost so much less these days .And if you do a lot of printing then a laser printer is best as far as I know

Yep, I'm going to look into this Feral, this Epson thing is a chunk of printer, but it's running costs are way too much. In fact, I am sure I have an old scanner, and an old Canon printer somewhere that isn't this fussy! Thanks for the help!

Yea I like my printer as a printer but i wouldnt buy an epsom again because of the trouble getting it to accept generic cartridges .I really had to fiddle with mine to get it to accept them and still have trouble with the odd one or two . Theres no way I will buy original cartridges though ...they are a total rip off . I used to have a xerox and that didnt mind copies or refills which were even cheaper .Cept it was a crap printer lol . The bastards get you one way or the other

Hey Sushi did you get this sorted? Just asking 'cos since you started this thread this company has been recommended to me, by some folk I trust. I haven't bought anything from them yet, but will do so in the next couple of weeks or so. One offer that looks quite interesting is a free Brother Multifunction scanner/printer if you buy three sets of carts for it. Not bad for £62, and they should last a good while. I'm happy enough with my Canon, but if you were looking to replace your Epson...

Oi Sushi, I'm trying to help you here!
Just had some dealings with the company I linked to above, and they tell me if you enter 'BAY98' into the promotion code box at the mo, your carts are half price.
So, a full set of six for your Epson RX500 would be £17.48 inc postage. Obviously if you buy in bulk they're cheaper, but if you wanted to buy a single set to check out the quality, it seems reasonable.

You're welcome. I ordered a couple last night, so should find out soon enough if they're as good as Canon originals.
The promo code worked, but had to be entered after adding stuff to the basket, rather than on the home page.

Hope they work well or you'll be blaming me! Just remember my earlier post about Epsons being fussy buggers. From experience they sometimes never work properly again after being fed a cartridge they choked on.

Carts came yesterday, and I installed them today. Hmm, quality is fine but they do lay the ink on a little heavier (or maybe it's just the pigmentation). OK for colour docs but I'm a fussy bugger with photos, and the subtlety of delicate tones is lost a little.
Hope yours worked out Sushi, wherever you may be :-)

Log on to ebay and put "rx500 refillable ink" into the find box, look for gear from ink-girl, I have bought some refillable cartridges from her and can't fault them on my Epson rx4450. They don't include the ink but I find the JR ink good.
