If that trend continues, we are all dead in 15 yrs or less.

15 years of global population shift and the unrest that goes with it. The only thing that slightly pleases me is that those rich fcukers who've bought islands on which to hide away are going to be subject not only to armed piracy but rising levels of seawater.

This is a very big El Nino. Nothing else separates it from 2014 or 2015

As for a slow increase in global warming, how about it's tipped, rather suddenly, into what we were expecting at a later date? Now that could be a surprise big time.

That is the stuff of Hollywood.
Like Andy said, El Nino + global warming = record year. Just like it did in 1998.
I have a horrid intimation that 10 years from now I'll still be arguing with a future iteration of Kog, who will be claiming the record set in 2016 has not been surpassed, therefore the world hasn't warmed since, ergo global warming is a hoax.

For the continental USA, this June was the hottest ever, and July has brought even more heat, particularly in the Midwest. Credit: NOAA, Skeptical Science

It was f**k**g hot in this corner of the continental USA*.
* Not, of course, that climate in the continental USA is necessarily reflective of global trends

I haven't yet seen real 100+ temps this year, mostly in mid to low 90's, you would think it was summer
it has been wet though,

There've been a handful of 100+ days here, and we don't normally get 100+ days. It's not rained in 3 months, but it's been getting increasingly humid thanks to the southwest monsoon.

we usually get a few 100+ days, I'm talking real temps, we have got 100+ heat factor days
you don't have to go far to find hotter normal temps though,

we've had a cooler and wetter one than usual, but its a dissipating el-nino so not unusual, still hade several days well into the 30's. Parts of the interia and more eastern Canada have had scorching temps well into the 40's range, far higher than the norm (if there is still a norm)

We're officially in a drought now. It hasn't rained for 4 weeks and before that thunderstorm it didn't rain for over 4 weeks. We've had consistently high temperatures since mid to end of May here. In the high 30's and low 40's, but it has cooled off at night. My grass is brown and my lawn guy isn't coming again until we've had rain. The farmers need 3 days of steady rain on the fields but that isn't going to happen during the next 10 days. They have been taking water from swamps, rivers and creeks to water the crops and in some cases smaller private lakes. There are a few local thunderstorms which lasted for 5 minutes, but not enough rain fell to make any difference. Friday is going to be a record breaker here according to Environment Canada well over 40 C. but localized thunderstorms.
The good news is that I love the heat and my tomato and peppers are almost ready to pick and my kale is ready plus I've been using lettuce from the garden too. The bad news is that I only have 1 more day of water in the rain barrels and then I'll have to use the hose pipe. This has been the hottest summer I've ever experienced here. I hung laundry out at 9 this morning (towels) and it was all dry 10 minutes later.
