One of the most important matches of 2017 is about to start, as Oxford are away to Luton in the semi-final of the Checkatrade Trophy. Should we win, we're off to Wemberleeee - for the second time in 2 years.

I am pleased to report that Dumbarton have probably secured their place in the Championship for next season. There is one round of matches still to play, and Dumbartton could still get pushed into a relegation play-off spot, but it would require Dumbarton to lose their final match against second placed Falkirk (likely) and the luckless Raith Rovers to win their match against bottom of the table Ayr United (quite possible) with a nine goal margin (somewhat unlikely).

It is actually derived from Dun Breton - fort of the Britons. Some locals prefer to style it Dunbarton, probably because the can't be arsed with the supercilious sneers of the like of you.
Dunbarton / Dumbarton Rock - which rears behind the magnificently named Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium (which has one stand for spectators) is one of the great fortresses of ancient Britain, and the traditional capital of the Kingdom of Strathclyde. Merlin is supposed to have stayed there.
