Great tune that. Spoiled by Johnny Rotten's infantile face-making and the weakness of the lyrics, which could have been so much better.

Infantile face-making and the weakness of the lyrics is punk though, isn't it? No expert on this mind - punk was a bit of a speciality for kids who weren't allowed out.

Just that. I knew a few as we often went along to the 'social occasions' of our daughters, the next generation on. Loud-mouthed cnuts with few talents, most of them.

Yeah, and about as hard as Angel Delight.

With hindsight, it was odd how bands had to fall into a category, wasn't it? Punks, heavy metal, mods, rockabilly. It led to some very odd bedfellows.
Most decent "punk" bands never were punks.

It's interesting to take a look at one's own music evolution: mine ranges from the stuff my parents used to listen to through to, currently, a very selective, mood-dictated, eclectic mix. Increasingly I find music irritating. I couldn't survive next to noisy, unruly neighbors.

England win by 5 wickets!!!
Joe Root - gets the winning runs having scored a century.
He is now the joint youngest England player to score 10,000 runs. He shares it with Alistair Cook - they scored their 10,000th run at exactly the same age!

Root is a completely different class to anyone else in this team. Cook scored lots of his runs while there were other competent batsmen around. Root reminds me of Lara - if he scores runs the team might to well, and like that Lara WI team there were a couple of ageing great bowlers at the end of their careers who could still do some damage. But if you take Root out, there’s not a whole lot you’d pin your confidence on.
That said, I’m absolutely delighted for Foakes who should have been in the team ages ago. A proper wicketkeeper rather than a batsman who becomes worse once they take the gloves and who is at best an average ‘keeper.

Also, some punk is great, some is rubbish. Like most musical forms. It served a useful function at the time by democratising music a bit. What came as a result of punk is often better than what was punk itself.

The 'good' punk bands were usually the ones who could still actually play their instruments such as the Clash and Ramones the others not so nuch

Not really for this thread but don’t forget 3 of the bands I saw at that time were Joy Division , the Buzzcocks & Television … All great as I recall 👍🍻

2nd Test against New Zealand - Trent Bridge.
If you win the toss, unless it's a very overcast rainy day, 9 out of 10 times Bat First.
on the 10th. time - think about it ...and then Bat First.

Brilliant day's Cricket!
England 473 for 5 - trail by 80
Root on 163 not out
England scored 383 runs today.
All three results available over the next two days.
I love Test Cricket!
God's in his heaven - all's right with the world.

Four! All four results possible!
Over 1000 runs over three days is pretty incredible

We end day four with all four possible results still on the cards. I wasn't expecting the game to be this interesting after days one or two.

free entry tomorrow at Trent Bridge Andy. So if you come over you could save a bit of money.

I fear that I'd spend everything I saved on beer (particularly at Test ground prices).
