hardly likely, the reps like their sex pests, it will probably make him even more popular in the GOP ranks They’ll be backing him for and lamenting the fact that women don’t show more ‘psychological resilience’ and shut the f**k up about what has happened. They may even just make him president...

Well, Lauer being - by comparison - very soft on Grab-Em-By-The-Pussy does seem to be somewhat relevant, doesn't it?

its hardly as if it wasn't noticed at the time how easy he was on Snowflake in comparison to Hillary. More fuax outrage and 'look another squirrel' from the right.

He's just resigned. The contrast to the GOP is stark, child molesters and self confessed sexual assaulters are fully embraced and supported, rather than ran out of the party.

It's definitely the right thing to do, and the wide condemnation forcing the resignation of Conyers and Franken is in stark contrast to the Republicans letting Frelingshuysen go and throwing money at Moore.
But - it should be noted - these are both easy resignations for Democrats. Franken's immediate successor is going to be appointed by a Democratic governor, so will be a Democrat. And 2018 is likely to be a relatively good year for Democrats generally so in the special election next year it's likely that the seat will stay Democratic.
In theory, of course, Roy Moore stepping down should be the same thing - if he'd actually stood down, a Republican write-in would probably have won in Alabama; but given that Moore wasn't stepping down it's a much harder choice for Republicans - for them it's have a sexual predator or an opposition senator. For Democrats it's have a sex-pest rather than a non-sex pest Senator from their own party.

its a sad indictment they would even consider having a pedophile over a Dem as a better choice.

It's a sad indictment that they didn't try to force him out of the race and put a write-in in his place; and it's a sad indictment that as a result they've had the President come out in support and have funneled cash to him. But my point is that if the situations were reversed and, say, Al Franken was candidate and his only opponent was, say, Jeff Sessions, would you be happy to vote for Sessions? I think the Republicans have done a terrible thing in making Moore candidate and not finding a replacement for him (something I'm pretty sure the Democrats would have done); but once it gets to vote time I can see why some would vote for him.

What a race - a slimy pedophile and a man who used to prosecute pedophiles.
This is Alabama though so all bets are off.

Oh I don't think there is any doubt the paedophile will win, he has the backing of snowflake and the full weight of the Republican party behind him.

If some people are finally starting to wise up that will act as a detriment. See Virginia.

It's too late now for the gop to promote a write in candidate, even if they were not fully behind their peado candidate, and it's obviously the case they all prefer a kiddy fiddler over a dem.

They are dropping like flys on capitol hill this week Arizona Republican Trent Franks has said he will resign amid an ethics investigation into conversations he had with female staff about surrogacy. The announcement came after a congressional panel said it was opening an inquiry into sexual harassment claims against Mr Franks. The lawmaker said he discussed surrogacy with two female aides when he and his wife were facing infertility. He is the third member of Congress to resign in three days. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42274780

Matt Damon forced to retract horrendous comments. The horrid comments? "There’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right?" he told host Peter Travers Thursday while speaking about the national reckoning on sexual misconduct taking place in Hollywood, politics, the media and more. "Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated, right?" abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/matt-damon-draws-backlash-comments-sexual-harassment-assault/story?id=51860137Wrong. He is being ripped to pieces by those saying there is no difference whatsoever between violent child rape and what Franken did in the photo. Both are on the same level. Damon - “I should get in the backseat and close my mouth for a while.”

I guess the point is why he felt the need to state that.
It’s like a silencing technique - somebody calls out creepy behaviour.
Somebody responds: “yeah well at least you weren’t raped!”
It’s like well, yes ok - but that’s not the point...

I think that's correct. While it's true that slapping someone on the arse is clearly less bad than wanking in front of them; and that wanking in front of someone is less bad than actually holding a knife to their throat and raping them; why do you need to state that?
I guess if he was asked specifically, then he needs to give an answer. But if it's out of the blue, it's at best redundant, and at worst seems like a deliberate attempt to downplay problematic behaviour.
The Aziz Ansari thing over the last couple of days is interesting - he clearly behaved utterly inappropriately, and the more you read of the details that shittier it sounds. But I think everyone accepts that this was just a guy acting like a dick rather than someone who needs to lose his career.
Even better is the response from Dan Harmon, who wrote Community among other things. He seems to be the first bloke in this wave of things to accept that he really did totally misbehave and can see it clearly now, and seems to actually be genuinely contrite.

Even Radfems I follow on social media are torn on the Aziz Ansari thing.
I think I saw a piece in the NYT (?) or something that says, yes, he acted like a dick, and yes we do need to work on the sexual culture which seems to teach people, particularly men, that getting somebody to "relent" is basically acceptable as consent.
But she seems to be holding him completely responsible for her own agency and there is a line where yes we expect people to be better, but also have to take responsibility for our own choices. I wouldn't see him as worthy of losing his career - not remotely on a Weinstein / Spacey level of fuckwittedness.
Edit: It was Weiss in the NYT. I thought it was a great piece.
