Not that I've ever heard, can't see how that would even work given how there is nothing really to link them. Probably a coincidence. I was wondering if the stress of the operation gave dormant cancer a kickstart out of its dormancy |

Liz Truss, the prime minister – a close friend of Coffey’s – is also a longstanding sceptic about tobacco control who has often opposed legislation to clamp down on smoking. She has also appointed former tobacco lobbyists as part of her team of Downing Street advisers.

Waaaaaaaay outside my bailiwick, but it doesn't say all antibiotics and, frankly, we are (literally) far more prescriptive than, I guess, 90% of the World's population. I think this is probably a marginal issue globally, but one which might be more impact full locally. |

It doesn't need to be all antibiotics.
Now, if it just means that sufficiently qualified pharmacists and nurses can prescribe them, it's probably fine - even good.
But if it means that the usual moron-on-the-street can say to themselves "I've got a cold, I need antibotics" and go and buy a load and keep taking them like they're factory farmed cattle, then it's a disastrous policy that breeds resistant bacteria who can then go and infect and kill people all over the world.

There's been outbreaks in Alberta and some red states in the US, a fall out from the extreme anti Vax stuff from the right, during covid, bleeding over.
Some of the av cult have supercharged their lies and coupled themselves to the Canadian conservative party and the GOP in the states. These parties have in many parts become the defacto political wing of the AV crank movement

All other treatments for Alyssa's leukaemia had failed. So doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital used "base editing" to perform a feat of biological engineering to build her a new living drug. Six months later the cancer is undetectable, but Alyssa is still being monitored in case it comes back. Alyssa, who is 13 and from Leicester, was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in May last year. T-cells are supposed to be the body's guardians - seeking out and destroying threats - but for Alyssa they had become the danger and were growing out of control. Her cancer was aggressive. Chemotherapy, and then a bone-marrow transplant, were unable to rid it from her body. Without the experimental medicine, the only option left would have been merely to make Alyssa as comfortable as possible. |

It's funny how they understand so little yet professor to know so much.
First off the women supposedly dead for 17 hours was attached to a whole army of machines beathing for her and circulating her blood, so while her own organs were not functioning science kept her alive, while being clinically dead. Unless you understand the nomenclature and if you are desperate to find proof of divine intervention you're gonna glom onto certain words while ignoring the fact science kept her alive long enough for her heart to recover sufficiently to start working unaided again. The article does not mention what other interventions such as clot busters angioplasty or stents that would almost have certainly been done to restore blood supply to the heart muscles. But then the article was far less interested in pushing the narrative it was a mystery or a miracle rather than a triumph of science
As for near death experiences, yes we've always known a small number wake up with stories of having seen things (we do most mornings having drsamed) but it only works to prove an afterlife if you ignore the overwhelming majority who wake up saying they experienced nothing, a total oblivion from falling unconscious to waking. Fact is the brain is still largely a mystery, but to insert God into everything we don't have a full understanding of yet is getting harder and harder for them to do as science progresses.
