I read one earlier that actually made me angry. Someone was described as having "clapped at" someone else. It appears to mean telling someone off. It sounds suspiciously woke.

not heard that one, though in some respect, while much of this new speak is annoying (I suspect a lot comes from corporate speak), I do love how flexible and dynamic the English Language is, and unlike, say the French, we never feel the need to set our language in aspic via legislation.

It's a pity that, if we are going to lose millions of people, the mortality couldn't be a bit more focused. It's pretty focused already culling people we can lose. There'll be some small collateral damage among the few elderly lefties and some immunocompromised younger people. But mostly it's old people who think they know better than government - who think society is bullshit and don't want to make very minor sacrifices for the greater good - who're going to get sick. And if young people get sick they tend to get preferential treatment from hospitals, which also helps. We're mostly culling out the unproductive, anti-society, right-wing, smug elderly. It could be worse.

You are so old and more than a little sad! Fancy that. New terms and phrases come into existance. Anyway, are you sure it was not “clapback”?

Yeah you're right. Clapback. What a disgusting phrase. I'd ban it.

In ban it in the name of freedom. And Boris. Right-wingers are always so anti free speech and incredibly authoritarian.

Err ... yep. "The term ultimately derives from a 2003 song by Ja Rule, appropriately titled “Clap Back.” The phrase is the meat of the hook (“Clap back, we gon’ clap back”), which answers what Ja Rule and his crew will do to rappers who disrespect them."

Are you laughing at all those people dying? Getting a big kick out of their suffering? I wouldn't doubt it for an instant.
