The upshot of all this is, of course, that crossing the channel in a small boat either as an asylum seeker or as a refugee is NOT ILLEGAL, in spite of what The Nasty Party insists on peddling.

The UK, as a founding signatory in 1951 to the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, upholds this precept, specifically in Article 31 of that same Convention.

Yeah the whole thing got missed translated - some academics think that the correct translation referrers to having to sleep on the flat roof of the "inn" - which was quite common in those parts and times.

Of course it is. If they were genuinely refugees or seeking asykum, any safe country would do, all things being equal. Again, that they are prepared to pay large sums of money and endanger life to get to UK gives the lie to that nonsense.

Apart from the opportunities for irresponsible posturing, shedloads of foreign workers help to maintain the welfare dependency upon which the left depends for support.
