We watched Russell Brand's "Rebirth" last night. It was hilarious. Very good indeed.
Basically he takes the piss out of himself for being such a posturing tool. I can only imagine that he is back working with Matt Morgan, who always was his harshest critic but who managed to get the best out of him.

We caught up with three "baddy gets their just deserts in the end" movies over the weekend ...
- "The Highwaymen" with Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner - "Sicario 2" with Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro - "Zero Dark Thirty" with Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and James Gandolfini
All good brain-relaxing stuff.
Then "To Kill a Mockingbird on DVD" which is still bloody magnificent.
Now binge-watching "Whitechapel", which I think I can get into.

Episode 1 down, 5 remaining.
I felt quite emotional watching that.

Not quite as jaw droppingly good as the first one, but great nonetheless.

I loved both Sicario's. Both movies that you can rewatch several times.

I loved both Sicario's. Both movies that you can rewatch several times. As a general rule I don't like re-watching or re-reading things. It happens sometimes (watching, never reading) but it's not the norm for me.

Sometimes you don't want to risk watching a new movie.

The Widow on ITV is pretty good. Kate Beckinsale looking for her dead husband in Rwanda. A survivor of a plane crash pretending he isn't. Pretty good so far. I think it's on Netflix too.

Watched Life of Brian last night with my son. I was surprised that I found it genuinely funny as I stopped finding Monty Python amusing a long time ago.
So many classic quotes. Great fun.

It just doesn't seem to age. The "splitters" scene and the "he has the right to have a baby" scene could have been written yesterday.

"Romanes eunt domus" right the way through to "Now write it down a hundred times ... If it's not done by sunrise, I'll cut your balls off" cracks me up every time.

I haven't watched any other Monty Python recently apart from fragments of sketches, but I'm pretty sure Life of Brian is the only Python that really holds up well after this amount of time, because it's (almost) a proper film.

I think I mentioned it before, but 'Alan Bennett at the BBC' seems to get better with time. It's a masterpiece of recent period observation.

I suspect that Monty Python and the Holy Grail would be painful to watch now. Last saw it when I was eight.
