Right. So when Donald Trump asks to be referred to as President you know he's being a pompous prick and you think "what a pompous prick", and when King Charles demands to be referred to as King Charles or Your Majesty you think what a pompous prick. Because honourifics are pompous and needing them to be used is prickish. And if someone asks to be called Madiba, you think what a pompous prick, too. But if Vincent asks to be called Alice or if James transitions and asks to be called Jan, it's a different kettle o' fish. You make my point for me. I was going to mention Royal titles. You don't have to do it. It's a courtesy but, if you don't feel comfortable referring to another human being as Your Royal Highness, you don't have to. Furthermore, if anyone insisted that you did so, you would think that they were being cuntish. Thanks.

andy - why do you keep going on about the name Alice. - I could have have said 'Jane'. The actual girls name is irrelevant. Alice Cooper is a stage name - which is fine. Like Elvis Costello. I was trying to separate the difference between someone who just wanted to be called by a particular name ie. James; Jim; Jimmy etc. and someone randomly declaring themselves to be a different sex and to be called by a name associated with that sex. You are not stupid - you obviously knew this. Why does the reason matter? They’re asking to be called by a name that is not the one they were given at birth. Why does the reason matter?

Its weird how the right can only ever debate stuff that's not happening, get outraged by things that are not happening, it's as if by making up extreme idiotic examples of stuff not happening its a cover for refusing to just be decent humans and accepting that people occasionally change things about themselves, and it's simply polite to accept that.

I still don't understand why it's hard to call Alice "Alice" when she wants to be called Alice, even if she was given the name "Vincent" at birth. I also don't understand why you'd want to call Alice by an different name when you know she wants to be called Alice.
It's easy. And there's no reason not to. And it's actively mean to Alice who you know will be upset. If you choose to call Alice by a different name when you already know better, everyone would have to assume that you're a rude, nasty, pathetic little person.

Woke?
They're allowing kids who have a track record of being brilliant but who went to schools which didn't offer separate sciences a way of getting in. As long as they do the extra work to catch up.

I very much doubt there will be many who get in that route. I think they have something under 250 new undergraduates each year. And generally schools that don't offer separate sciences are going to be ones in less affluent places and therefore are unlikely to push their students to apply to elite institutions. Caltech might want these kids, but their pathways are already heavily limited.

Did you not even bother to read your own link this time? “ Ehhhh…not quite yet. Jury’s out. What they’re planning sounds like a reasonable work-around for particularly gifted, but educationally deprived students who aspire to greater things. The young lady the reporter begins the story with went to a school that didn’t offer algebra in 8th grade. But she busted her butt, and was able to double up in her sophomore year to catch up to calculus by her senior. That chance isn’t there for every student who might want to take a shot at attending an institution with stringent entrance requirements like Caltech. These changes are meant to level that playing field. But not having it available in high school isn’t a free pass – a student still has to take course and pass a subject certification exam, or Caltech will also accept a score of 5 on AP exams and a score of 6 or 7 on International Baccalaureate exams So this new program isn’t a gimme, per se. The ability has to be proven prior to being accepted.”

It's also weird to refer to it as the school of an imaginary person given how much actual stuff they've done.

It's all about the outrage, not the truth of the matter. The POM generates headlines that often bear little resemblance to the story, they know the soft headed fools in team idiot wouldn't bother (or cant) read past the click bait headline and will simply belive.

in the era of woke, segregation is a wonderful and positive thing. and if you don't agree, you're a racist. hotair.com/david-strom/2023/09/05/opposing-segregation-makes-you-a-racist-n575699well, if segregation is a wonderful thing, lets go whole hog. segregated schools, segregated cities and towns, segregated hospitals. segregated space program. segregated military. separate browns from blacks. on and on. in essence, the woke left is saying the KKK was right.

The KKK definitely was not supporting limited segregated events. I don’t know why you cannot understand the difference between Jim Crow and just random one of segregated events. The fact that we separate some things by sex does not make us the same as Saudi Arabia in terms of sex segregation. And the irony is the people who are complaining the loudest about one kids event for black and Latino children would never want their children mixing with Latinos and black kids anyway.

“ “Creating spaces for Black, brown and AAPI kids is seen as some kind of zero-sum game for people who are against it,” said Macheo Payne, a professor of social work at Cal State East Bay. “They ask where the white spaces are, which disregards how those spaces exist by default in society.”
Exactly this. And the white people complaining about this are typically the kind of white people who you would need a safe space from.

"Why is there not an international man's day?" "Why is there not White History Month?" "Why don't people fly the Straight Pride flag?"
We know that nobody asks these questions honestly. It's all disingenuous sh*t.
