Remind us who introduced that to the NHS?

So, still making lots of money. Not actually losing money?

Lack of surgeons probably due to Brexit threat. Get used to it suckers.

As in, "Will you work extra hours for less money?" in a world where burnout is becoming increasingly common. But hey, let's slag them off anyway. They aren't working extra hours for less money. They are losing some of the tax relief on their pension contributions. That's all.

Yeah. So less take home pay. The opposite to getting paid overtime. They're pretty stretched - I have a surgeon friend in the NHS - and stuff like this doesn't help. Same with the police. Tory cuts.

Nah. Prejudice. Different thing altogether.
Can anyone practice as a surgeon in the UK though?

So financially less beneficial. Less beneficial than what? Than their previous situation. It just seems straight forward to me. People offered incentives / incentivised to work additional shifts. People lose some of those incentives. People decide without said incentive it is not worth doing the extra shifts. People stop doing extra shifts. I don't get why it's particularly shocking.

There may not be a lot of sympathy for well paid consultants having to pay higher tax bills. But if the net result is a punishing tax hit for the doctors when they work extra hours its easy to understand why they are reluctant to do more than their normal full, and often stressful, week's work.
Well I mean, obviously. I am surprised that people are surprised by this.

Fine, if you can't be arsed to work because you get less pension benefits, fine but t6hen that: Waiting lists for routine surgery have risen by up to 50% in England because senior doctors say they cannot afford to work extra shifts.
Consultants have begun refusing to work beyond their planned hours after receiving unexpected tax bills, following new pension rules in 2016.
NHS hospitals said delays are becoming increasingly routine as a result. hardly rings true does it? Wait until labour get into power, that should make them squel.

NHS hospitals said delays are becoming increasingly routine as a result. hardly rings true does it? Wait until labour get into power, that should make them squel. If you mean "they are likely to starve due to changes" then no, it probably doesn't ring true. If it means "they may be on a big salary but have undertaken a number of commitments in line with that income which become unaffordable due to the tax hit" then it becomes accurate. I just don't particularly see why people have an issue with people changing their work style when the incentive(s) that existed are removed. If you already do a stressful job / long hours then you need to be incentivised to add to your workload/time away from you friends and family. *Shrugs*
