25 years (that'll never happen) So... I just learned that there is no parole for federal crimes any more. He will serve his 25 years unless he's pardoned. There is an opportunity for something called "good time credit" where prisons have the discretion to knock 50 days off a sentence per year (so, I guess, about 1/6 of the total or 5 years in SBF's case). But it's down to the individual prison, and they tend to use it to get good behaviour out of people they think will be unreliably crappy so mostly the white collar crims don't get it.

I'm never truly convinced white collar crime deserves less punishment cos it's not violent, lots of plebs do non violent crime but still get harsher sentences and don't go to cushy country club prisons near their families.

Interesting, but I bet he'll get the sentence reduced on appeal. I wonder how much he's salted away.
