"I am confident that we'll get that growth." So, a magic money tree upon which all of his spending plans depend. I haven't seen this particular example. But all politicians do this magic trick when asked how they're going to fund their spending plans while also not raising taxes on anyone earning less than several million quid a year. It's embarrassing. "We'll fund it through growth" is bullshit. It might be worse bullshit from Starmer, though, who isn't promising massive stuff like Corbyn did and therefore he does need massive borrowing; or offering massive changes to the economy that might - conceivably - change the economic growth. Starmer offers drearily little change and pretends to be the adult in the room, the sensible dad, pandering to the right as well as the left. If you're offering nothing and pretending to be sensible, inventing magical cash creation through magical economic growth that is in nobody's forecasts, you're just pathetic.

That said, Labour will have to work hard to produce something weirder and more embarrassing than Penny Mordaunt's speech.

I see that Stürmer is promising a series of new towns, in the manner of Milton Keynes, Welwyn Garden City and Bracknell. You can imagine who will occupy these new tribal homelands.
A veritable home from home. In fact, there's an opportunity for a nod to the Raj here and twinning idea, while paying tribute to an intellectual titan of the Left: one of the new cantons could be called Abbottabad.

That said, Labour will have to work hard to produce something weirder and more embarrassing than Penny Mordaunt's speech. Agreed. "Stand up and fight" is questionable just the once, but twelve times? I think "Go back to your constituencies and prepare for opposition to have your arse handed to you on a plate" is far more apposite.

I see that Sunak's disapproval rating is at 63% and rising so it's likely February's equally dire 63% is about to be overtaken.
Politico's Poll of Polls also puts Labour on 44%, the Tories on 27% with what appears to be a widening gap. No wonder Starmer has been keeping his mouth shut (till today).

Yes, Starmer's team's response to this has been appalling, if unsurprising.

I think Starmer's put himself at a bit of an electoral disadvantage with the Mohammedan population, which forms a much, much more important electorate than our Jews.
He's made a pig's ear of this love-in with the Pal-supporting Muzzies. Of course, it probably hasn't gone unnoticed that Starmer's missus is Jewish and his kids are being brought up in the faith.
