apparently the vaccine won't make much difference. some are calling for lockdowns, isolation, and mask wearing through at least the end of 2021 even if people are vaccinated. Presumably they’ll be calling for mask-wearing for those not-yet-vaccinated, isolation for those exposed but unvaccinated, and lockdowns in areas that there are outbreaks. And saying that this will probably take us well into 2021. And then some idiots have decided to read this as scandalous rather than basic common sense.

CDC director pushes back on schools closing amid pandemic"CDC Director Robert Redfield stated on Thursday during the first White House coronavirus task force briefing held since July that schools should remain open during the pandemic, despite a number of major school districts going virtual only in recent weeks." "This week, New York City became the latest major school district to close building amid a surge in cases across the country." www.news5cleveland.com/news/national/coronavirus/cdc-director-pushes-back-on-schools-closing-amid-pandemiclisten to the scientists cries the "party of science." As I said the other day, closing schools while keeping bars and churches and gyms open is moronic. Schools should, of course, close temporarily if there are outbreaks at those schools, but closing down entire school districts now looks like something that the data doesn’t really back up when there’s uncontrolled community spread from all the other much more dangerous actions the public are taking.

It was “outdoors” by the daft definitions of Napa County. He was an idiot for going, though. The French Laundry is overpriced for what it is and if you’re going to pay that much for a three Michelin star meal in the Bay Area there are better choices.

Suffice to say Ricks article is dogshit. For those interested in reality, this is a good breakdown of both the Italian research and the questions around it. "How early was the coronavirus really circulating in Italy? | Live Science" www.livescience.com/coronavirus-circulating-italy-earlier-thought.htmlThe World Health Organization's China office first picked up the scent of a mysterious cluster of pneumonia cases in the city of Wuhan from local media statements on Dec. 31 and rang the alarm bells at the start of the new year, according to the WHO's timeline. Scientists later traced the first known case of COVID-19 in Wuhan back to Nov. 17, 2019, Live Science previously reported. But the actual pandemic timeline — from the moment the virus hopped from animals to humans to when it first crossed international borders — remains murky. Italy, one of the worst-hit countries in Europe during the first wave of the virus, recorded its first local case on Feb. 20 in Lombardy, a region in northern Italy. That case suggested that the virus had been circulating in Italy since January of this year, according to the new study published on Nov. 11 in the Tumori Journal.

Even the guardian says it's up to 90% effective, depending on the dose. Oddly, a lower initial dose seems more protective.

Interesting that none of the vaccines were invented by socialism. All were invented by Capitalism.

Oxford's manufacturing partner, AstraZeneca, is preparing to make three billion doses worldwide. The Oxford vaccine, at a price of around £3, also costs far less than Pfizer's (around £15) or Moderna's (£25) vaccines.

Yep, Blighty's backroom boffins have done it again, using nothing more than common sense, elbow grease and old washing-up liquid bottles.

It’d be interesting to know if single doses did anything, given that a bunch of people will fall through the net.

Ironically, most of them were developed by massive government subsidy. Which the right hates.

Not Pfizer. They very deliberately rejected tax payer money to avoid needless state bureaucracy. It's probably why they were first.
