Will Smith's dumb-arsed wife* (formally known as "girlfriend") caused all this . . Smith was laughing right along with the rest of the audience until wife* acted all offended. Then he, ( not seeing past the present, a child-like characteristic typical ), acted all big shot. Disagree ! It was noted by commentators that he was ok with the joke until he saw his wife's displeasure. When I saw her attitude afterwards, she looked "entitled" and a bit snooty. And also happy that Will made a fool out of himself to please her.

It's been noted by many people that everyone at the Oscars laughs at every gag directed at them, even if they don't understand the gag, because they know the camera will be on them and they know they'll get crappy press if they look sour. The odds of Smith even understanding the weird GI Jane gag at all given that nobody's seen the film for a quarter century are pretty slim.

Also, on a side note - in your weird misogynist attack you ignore there is actually nothing wrong at all with showing “displeasure” at a joke made about you. She is not required to find it funny. If she wants to roll her eyes at a lame joke that’s completely fine. She reacted in a completely legitimate and professional manner. Will chose not to. And that’s on him. |

I am sure he fully understands the GI Jane reference which is why he reacted the way he did (I.e mad at his wife’s illness being mocked) but yeah I agree about just smiling while the cameras are going round. He probably was smiling till he got what Chris Rock said and then….decided that the course of action to take was to slap the host…which is just odd! I mean there are many luvvies who I have probably wanted to see slapped but just as a nice daydream - not for real! |
