Yeah, he's probably a horrible thuggish sex brute, and neither party comes out of this looking good. She's basically let him get away with it and left him free to do it again. They've both sent a terrible message to women in a similar situation and they've both let down themselves, their community and wider society.

Is there any chance she would have seen real justice? No. (Statistically - incredibly unlikely). So in this case taking a settlement is the most likely form of justice she will get.
