My last baby was induced because he was a week late and i was hypoglycaemic. He was 10lbs in weight and they didn't want him to stay in my tum any longer as he would've been even heavier! The induction procedure was quick, he was born within one hour and 100% healthy, a beautiful baby!
I can well believe there are unnecessary inductions because there are just so many births for the medical team to contend with. To ensure the best care perhaps it is necessary to schedule some births by way of induction. I personally would never consider anything other than a hospital birth because all the equipment and resources are on hand should the need arise.

I have not many nurses who opt for home birth to be honest, when you know and seee when things go wrong it changes how you look at things

First bub was a week late so was induced labour amazing experience - what I hadn't been prepared for was a 'spontaneous fetal ejection' I didn't actually physically or intentionally 'push' - but rather my whole body went into push mode on its own accord (much to the aggravation of the bitter thingyeyed old midwife) and resulted in a MEGA orgasmic birth (google it) sometimes referred to as 'the gift' ...however the stitching up was definitely not orgasmic Umm birth 2 was breech & after a couple of previous dramas & loss, my Obstetrician decided - for baby's sake - he'd perform a caesarian section - I was awake, husband was with me - all good To give birth at home must be fantastic - not so sure about doing it alone OR with candles going - I'd have probably burned my toosh but as long as the end result is a healthy baby & mama - that's the main thing
