Equally qualified isn't the same as equally good. I would suggest strong overlap. Besides there is no suggestion he is considering those who are unqualified and would not be good. (Although in the US a primary concern has always been their political leanings - not sure how that plays into the “equally good” argument.) |

White men really need their hands held and told that it's all going to be OK. They really struggle with the idea that 108/114 isn't representative of merit, because that implies that white men - particularly rich white men - have had all kinds of assistance and leg-ups that other people haven't. Which implies that the meagre and pathetic achievements of most of us are actually even more meagre and pathetic than they appear at first. The facts that I can piss 2 meters up a wall, or get into a fight outside a pub at 11:30 on a Friday night after too many Staropramens, or have a third class degree in window washing from the University of Crawley, become less impressive when I realise that every other class of society has had to overcome more to get to my level of success.
