Masons always seem to over-rate their own importance. They create the myth that business gets done between masons in order to keep getting new recruits. Otherwise nobody would join.

Never saw the point, my dad was asked to join but wasn't interested.
It's hilarious how often they are woven into numerous conspiracy theories, that promote them and their supposed influence far far beyond reality.

It goes back a long way to the Knights Templar when it meant something. This new stuff is like an emasculated Lego version.

Still, they're useful in that their existence seem to annoy the left no end.

The Masons used to be somewhat of an esoteric order. I think it was largely watered down though and has been a just a fraternity for a long time now.

I had a good mate at school who had some sort of Masonic scholarship. Unusually for us, he was RC, so it was as strange choice of school. He went on all sorts of adventure training courses which weren't available to us (I think it was a condition of his sponsorship) which he wasn't especially keen on. Then he went on an O-type course for the Army. Straight to Sandhurst, Royal Artillery and then the Police. Now a pretty senior bloke in Gloucester dibble.
It didn't really occur to me at the time, but .....

The place I used to work (UK) dealt a lot with masons. There is/was influence in securing deals and I believe it's illegal but as soon as you try to pin anything on anyone it clams up because, guess what?, those in the relevant positions of authority... etc

Think I'll jump on a flight to Canada and just, you know, stay there. That's ok, isn't it?

"Marta's cousin, Giuseppe Pichierri, an Italian doctor and microbiologist working for NHS in the UK, who has been living in London for almost 15 years, is appalled by what happened: “We are furious and outraged, my English wife and father-in-law cannot understand what is happening to their country.”

And yet in they pour, fleeing from the Heulocaust. "More than five million EU citizens living in the UK have applied for settled status, nearly double the number thought to be residents before the EU referendum, official figures revealed on Thursday. The Home Office data showed 4.9 million of the 5.4 million had already been granted settled status, of which 4.88 million were living in England. This compares with the three million that were estimated to have been in the UK at the time of the vote on Brexit in 2016.
