Maybe he was was teaching his son how it's done? "This is how I met your mother. You know, the woman in the basement".

You'd think that after 11 years in power the Tories would have kids leaving school who could count. Even if the education system was non-existent when they came to power, someone graduating from university this summer had 8 years in Tory schools and 3 in Tory universities, which is long enough to learn how to add 6 and 5.

And only a handful of them were taught by Baloo. What excuse do the others have?

They weren't taught maths or English by me. Very little geography either. It's an exercise in puppy-minding and that's the way teachers like it

I'm sure you were capable of doing enough damage to their learning even if it wasn't in maths lessons.

Gove tried to take on the blob and failed. The whole education system from teachers to unions to the civil service to education research is mired in woke sh*t that actively prevents actual education. I think it's deliberate on their part.

So you're saying the Tories are totally inept in government and had we not had the 11 wasted years of grift and corruption things would have been much better.
At least we're agreed

Nah, it's several generations of teachers who have managed to perpetuate the myth of the overworked, underpaid, under-resourced martyr. They're not all like it, but enough.

And the Tories having been in government for 29 of the last 42 years have just been not up to governing with any level of competence needed to make the changes, I already said we can agree on that.

It’s amazing parents shirk all responsibility. If a child has basic numeracy issues then there are a whole host of people who failed said child, starting with the parents. (Although the irony in you posting this while referring to “a successful black women” is not lost.)

It's in the high 30cs today gonna be 40c to 41c over the weekend till Monday. The AC is struggling to keep up.
Luckily it's gonna drop for my 10 days back country canoe trip in a week.
Still better this than rain, it's miserable in an open canoe in a rain storm.

I've seen a lot of reports on that "heat bubble" over the North West. Apparently the whole area is in absolutely record breaking miserable temperatures where it's not dropping at night.
I went canoeing last weekend, just down the local river. I have to say that I am absolutely baffled about why anyone would use a canoe when you can have a much faster, much more mobile, much more stable kayak. What's the deal? Is it storage?

Hard to get 10 days food and supplies in a kayak, though we use Clipper tripping canoes that are very stable and even better once fully loaded.
A lot of different types

Partly that, though we do some shorter sea kayaking trips, I just find in a canoe you can change positions and not be stuck in the same one for hours. On a long trip kayaks lack the comforts really, I'm pushing 60 and it's getting harder to sit 8 hours a day in a kayak for so long.
Oh and if I need a piss in a canoe you can kneel up and piss over the side.
