I'm sorry to be such a disappointment to you.

However, may I ask you just one question?

Is it at all possible to disagree with "Taking The Knee" in England without being a RACIST! ?

Well obviously, and I'm sure many quietly disagree, but to be so openly hostile to such a degree you boo and jeer at those thinking racial equality is a thing worth standing with, probably puts you firmly with the racists. and those booing included many posting racial abuse on social media, or have you edited that out of your memory?

I am not racist. I think racial equality is not only worth standing up for but totally agree that it is the case. And all the other things to do with anti racism.

But "Taking The Knee" is an empty gesture, imported from the US. It is cringy. It is bogus and I'm sorry but if you don't see that - well so be it.

Fine, nothing wrong with that, but its usually a given if you boo and jeer something and post racist stuff about it on social media, you're probably a racist. I still can't understand why some are so intent on excusing that kind of thing and trying to make out the ones saying racial equality is a good thing are somehow the racists in this situation, again, its risible.

It is. I think it’s unlikely but not impossible. (Note I think it’s far more possible to be indifferent / not care and not be racist than be actively opposed.)

However if you are actually booing and jeering people doing it and then posting racist / racialised comments to social media about it then it’s safe to say you’re probably racist.

Actually, a fair few people who are clearly in favour of serious action on racial inequality think it's something between an empty gesture at this point and positively damaging because it makes people think they're doing something when they're not (just like, for example, the people who pay nothing to put an image of a poppy on their facebook page and honour the minute silence, and do nothing else).

I was at that point - once hundreds of footballers are performatively taking the knee it no longer has the impact it did one one American Footballer did it, did it unsanctioned, did it during the National Anthem (which is itself a performative empty gesture thankfully missing from British sport). It's got to the point where it's a bit rubbish and pointless.

Basically, a week ago I would have agreed with WKC that it's worthless now, and footballers would ideally be doing something more visible and active in opposing racism. The action of the Millwall fans now means that it clearly is something footballers should continue to do, because it's obviously not empty if it creates that reaction.

I don't agree with WKC that the Millwall fans should be booing those who are performing an empty anti-racism gesture. Once you start booing the empty gesture it stops being empty and you are effectively stating your opposition to what the gesture stands for.

I know you want to think the racists will win and you wont have to content with black people having equal rights that are upheld at every level, but you are on the wrong side of history on this one, less and less are tolerating racism and even fewer are supporting it.

It does make sense that racists would see people saying “black lives matter” as being racist. Mids is a white supremacist so of course equality is “racism” in his eyes.
