Mixed-race family rise 'dramatic'

Nearly one in 10 UK children live in a mixed-race family, a study suggests.

It said mixed-race partnerships were now so commonplace that some ethnic groups, such as Afro-Caribbean, were expected to virtually disappear.

Researchers said they believed future generations would "not see race in the way we see it", the Observer reported.

Lucinda Platt, author of the report for Essex University's Institute of Social and Economic Research, said it was a "dramatic" change.

'Remain vigilant'

Half of all British men with Caribbean heritage are in a relationship with partners of a different race, according to the research.

One in five black African men, one in 10 Indian men and women and two out of five Chinese women are also in a relationship with a partner from another race.

Now, one in five children belongs to an ethnic minority - a proportion far higher compared with the adult population, the Observer reported.

If any figures were made available, you would see that in most cases the mother is white and the father is black. Why is that?

Why do so many of these kids have white mothers and an absent father?

Do you have any figures for that scooby?
They don't all have absentee fathers.
There are families where the mother is Afro-Caribbean as well.

Maybe you notice white single mothers with mixed race babies whilst you don't notice all the white single mothers with white babies, Scoob. They don't really stand out as much. I'm sure that there are at least as many white absent fathers.

Well without figures we have to rely on anecdotal evidence and I don't feel right sometimes telling tales as it were, if it seems like reporting people I see.
However I've notice quite a few mixed- race children where I live, with both white and Afro-Caribbean mothers.
They all seem quite well off and looked after well.
I think it's a good thing myself.
It may be that females in a group[of animals etc] tend to acquaint males from outside the group. Human nature.

What I do notice Puffin, is that when I see a mixed race couple, 9 times out of 10, the woman is white.

And at 9 out of 10 i'm being generous.

I am simply telling you of my observations, you are free to make your own, as indeed everyone else is.

That there are so many is of no concern of mine, any more than a Catholic mother has a Muslim or Jewish partner, or any other.

I was interested in the statistic that 2 out of 5 Chinese women are exogamous. Why is there no similar statistics for Chinese men? Mail order brides? Or a lot of Chinese batchelors?
