It's a wierd reaction. The SS did some horrific things, but I don't believe that service in the Waffen-SS was in itself criminal. That should have been clarified.

I understand why the French right would want to distance themselves from any suggestion that the SS weren't pure evil, but the bloke's fundamentally correct.

It's an odd question to bring up in an interview. Was the journo looking for a gotcha? Anyway, it may well be true that they didn't all do bad stuff. I don't know enough to say but he could have answered it better. Something like, "The SS, like the British Labour party are, were a vile and evil organisation. Were all the members vile and evil? Maybe not, but as a whole, yes".

But following a legal challenge from a rival chain in Ireland, other companies will now be free to use the name "Mac" to sell poultry products or in their chains' names.

The European Court of Justice found that McDonald's could not show it had made genuine use of the trademark for a continuous period of five years.

"McDonald's loses the EU trade mark 'Big Mac' in respect of poultry products," the judges ruled.

McDonald's noted in a statement that the court's decision did not affect its right to use the "Big Mac" trademark.

But it does open the door for other chains to use the name, including Supermac, the firm that brought the challenge.

Supermac, founded in 1978 in Galway, sells beef and chicken burgers and chicken nuggets at 120 red and white branded outlets across Ireland."

I dunno, I actually feel a bit sorry for MacDonalds here: the Mac thing is deffo theirs by rights, when applied to burgers. I think matey McDonagh's taking the piss a bit. I'd understand if MacDonalds had forbidden him from branding his range of garden furniture or life insurance.

1. No system of democracy is perfect.
2. That said, PR is more representative of the people than is FPTP.
3. AfD already has 77 seats out of 773 in the Bundestag and, if they do better this time, they'll pick up even more.
