The good news is that I have mastered the strimmer coil mechanism and we have made friends. Rejoice.

I met my new great niece, followed by a stroll across the fields of Lincolnshire then a pint in the local. Glorious spring weather.

Just got back from Vancouver moving the boy back home for summer, went to Costco on the way home so now feel extremely homicidal

He's a teenager, homicidal is the default.

Monsoon? Pfft! That's a very wanky American appropriation, isn't it? No. The southwest US monsoon is a classic monsoonal system. Warm water in a bay. Super hot inland weather drawing the moist air inland. It’s smaller scale than Indian monsoon but it’s basically the same geographic/meteorological thing

But not really a monsoon. That's very gay. It's another example of silly Yank "fire in the hole!" hype.

The good news is that I have mastered the strimmer coil mechanism and we have made friends. Rejoice. You mean the mechanism that releases more cutting cord? Thermic or electric?

Yeah, the spool thing in the middle. It's a little wanky flymo electric job that I only use fit tidying around the shrubs and bays at the front. I found the lightweight strimmer line too flimsy as there's a sheep fence which just snaps the line every two seconds. I bought to heavy gauge stuff but it needed a new technique to keep in on the reel.

You can taper the end of the thicker cord with a sharp knife to get it in the hole of the spool. Alternatively Stihl cord's pretty robust. Seems like I spend half my life strimming and mowing, just to hold it all back from enveloping us.

That's a good idea to use Stihl kit which is usually very good quality. I think I'll re-equip with Stihl battery-powered tools at some point as they're bloody handy.

I have very little lawn really, it's trees and hedges that take my time. If not mine, my parents'. I don't really enjoy gardening. I wish I did, but I just don't.

Stihl tools are about the best. As for gardening, down here as I say it's about keeping it under control and right now until the heat arrives in July it's non-stop, a pain in the butt. But the potager's another thing - growing your own food's uniquely rewarding.

Yeah, I sometimes think a veggie patch would be enjoyable. Maybe in Spain one day.

I will be growing chilis this year - nothing fancy - just those nice green Indian jobs which are often hard to find fresh in the countryside.

Start them in your orangerie or they may come to nothing. They need warmth. Poivrons are the same. We're not quite far enough south to get the Med climate.

Agreed. It's all rather Julian & Sandy. Very Polari.
Yes, I know I'm aging myself.
