Is there no depth to their incompetence? Remember, the SNP were the heroes of the Remain mob. They don't rave about them anymore for some reason. "The Scottish school system was once the jewel in the British educational crown. With good standards and low levels of social inequality, it was seen as the part of the UK where working-class kids could get ahead as a result of a high-quality comprehensive education. The English system was a basket case by comparison, characterised by huge variations in school quality, poor outcomes and the occasional wacky education theory. In 1997, four in 10 English pupils started secondary school without sufficient levels of literacy. A quarter of a century later, and the situation has flipped. The latest comparative data on outcomes for 15-year-olds across OECD countries, published last week, shows a Scottish school system in steep decline, blighted by rising levels of social inequality. The drop in standards is the equivalent of today’s teenagers missing around 16 months of maths teaching compared with those in 2012, 18 months of science, and eight months of reading. Scottish educationalist Lindsay Paterson describes the situation as “catastrophic”." www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/10/scottish-schools-have-tumbled-from-top-of-the-class-this-is-what-went-wrong

Funny you should mention Remain:
“ This is the rot of populism, wherever it is found. For the SNP, it comes in the form of independence and launching constitutional fights it can’t win with Westminster; for the Conservative party, it has been Brexit and blaming EU membership for the country’s wider economic woes. Picking a fight with a big, bad villain allows governing parties with terrible track records to avoid short-term accountability for their substantive failures. But politicians should be warned: voters eventually get wise to the playbook.”

Remember how the English (and Scottish) left heaped utter praise on the SNP during covid? You elevated Sturgeon to the depths of those other international chick leaders that turned out to be failures. Sturgeon, the Finnish one, Trudeau, the New Zealand one etc.

I wasn’t here during Covid. No idea what the UK was up to.

We certainly remember the total inept Boris being all of the place, incompetent, unable to create consistent policy leading to the death of hundreds of thousands, all while partying the night away and breaking multiple laws his government expected the rest to follow.

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said three appliances were dispatched to respond to the incident."
Presumably a couple of freezers and a dishwasher.

These ice cream wars have probably never gone away. Money laundering through cash businesses, I expect. Or drugs. Or both.
So stressful. One of the vendors was found dead next to his van, covered in raspberry sauce and sprinkles.
Police say he'd topped himself.

This is an interesting, odd read, on many levels. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-67666606The story is very much of its time, but I was struck by the claim of how this is the latest in a string of cold cases to be cracked under the new unifies McDibble system. It's about half a case a year and most of the actors are dead.

45% marginal rate of income tax for Angus McScrooge.
Socialism.
Still, it will be interesting to if, as the casual and oft-repeated bullshit about wealth flight comes true.

Agreed.
Like Rwanda flights, one or two might happen but, bigger picture, it'll turn out to be so much political bullsh*t.

It's an assertion that I particularly despise. It's the kind of "in-the-know" patrician bullshit you expect to hear from braying City boys like Farage.

45% as a marginal top rate doesn't seem particularly onerous. What's your problem?
Also, f**k**g BBC. Why the f**k do they still talk about tax as "pence"? Your tax rate is going up 2 pence in the pound, like it's a f**k**g lame 1980s Chancellor's budget. It's targeted juvenilia, aiming to treat us all as if we're idiot children, keeping us out of the adult conversations who don't understand hard things like percentages.

Still, it will be interesting to if, as the casual and oft-repeated bullshit about wealth flight comes true. This is also often claimed in the US. The marginal rate of tax on the wealthy is much more in California than in Texas. Yet, somehow, almost all the serious high tech businesses are in California (or equally high tax Washington state), all the biotech is in high tax Massachusetts, all the money pushers are in high tax New York. The very high wealth individuals all hide their money anyway, regardless. The few who flee to Texas are not the very rich, and mostly go because housing is cheaper - which is because nobody wants to live there while the nice (but high tax) states are crowded. Sure, the wealth itself might fly away to the Cayman Islands, but the people don't.
