There is something horribly pedestrian and joyless about republicanism, I always feel.
I am a monarchies, but not a royalist, although I expect I'll fill up at the scenes of gratitude and respect on The Mall. I always enjoy Trooping of the Colour.

No, it is going to be a difficult wrench, but I think Charles will be fine. He's matured and Camilla is wildly popular.
The Duchess of Cambridge is the real superstar of course. She alone will secure the future of the Monarchy, as indeed will Boris, albeit through providing a cautionary example of a ruthless and ambitious politician. We need those, but we don't necessarily want them as Head of State.

I understand and sort of agree with Baloo on this - Monarchy OK Royalty not - but like any rule it depends on the ruler and you can't depose a monarch without difficulty. And the sheer waste of money...

I shudder with horror at the thought of an elected head of state. Some Blair type character. Or even worse, Khan. I'd rather Andrew as king than him.
