She means during the First World War when the chicks stepped up while the chaps were in France. The FA didn't ban it as such. They just didn't allow the games to be played at FA clubs' grounds and they didn't support it. The chicks could quite easily have formed their own FA and gone their own way. For some reason they chose not to. They banned it. Why would they need two football associations for the same sport just because the FA decided to be sexist? What a stupid thing to say. The First World War ended in 1918. Women’s football still drew big crowds till it was banned in 1921.

Not very successfully since the chicks continued to play football and had their own league. The FA only had the power to prevent ladies from playing in FA grounds.

I have played football in many non-FA grounds. Unhindered, except by my whalebone liberty bodice.

Banning them from FA grounds and the FA itself is a ban, you do understand that right.
Only a very dim bulb might thunk it was suggested wemon were stopped from playing in the park or on rec fields.

Since they continued to play, it didn't ban it "effectively" or otherwise.

It doesn't sound like much of a ban if you're allowed to keep doing something.

They could easily have formed their own professional league and, over time, developed a fully professional game equal to the mens'. Are you saying women aren't capable of that and need to hang on to the mens' coat-tails, unable to form their own successful football association? Men's football started from nothing, why couldn't the women do the same?

Even now, it's almost entirely supported by the men's game. Not that that's a bad thing, reaching down and giving a hand up to the weaker sex is the right thing to do.

I think they would (men and women) do us prouder if they could, perhaps, curb their language. The commentator apologised for one incident yesterday when a Lioness clearly called a dirty, fouling Huness a f**k**g prick. You really didn't need to be a lipreader. One of the goalscorers celebrated with a string of salt language. I'm no prude, but this is a horrible way to behave in public. They must know that, and that they continue to do it smacks of a particular sort of entitlement. Men and women here. Men AND women. Twice. In the same post.

oh ffs footy players have always sworn, in fact most people in general swear, the idea this is a sign of entitlement is risibly stupid.
