How about an unelected elite controlling all policy; the judiciary; police and the armed forces? That would be fine if that unelected elite was me. Not if it was anyone else.

I can see the benefits of an Australia-style mandatory vote, but only if there is an added option stating "None of the above". I think people just spoil their ballots. I was very opposed to the Aussie system at first but I realised it’s just a cultural difference. We see voting as a right. They see it as a civic obligation. Also with mandatory voting it means political parties cannot use chicanery to try and exclude from voting those they know would not support them.

No. Or maybe have some kind of test that shows people are capable of reasoned thought. But then even stupid people should have a say in their society. But not a say that affects others. Nah even that. They should get a say. If people could only vote on things that did not impact others nobody would get the vote.

That’s not just the current system. It’s always been like that. Not like it is now. Every Mf and his/her son can be immediately accessed by those wishing to promote their cause with lies, promises and BS. Look at Bert. It really has always been like that. Whether through exposure to lies or inability to access any information at all.

A great example of what happens when electoral reform is allowed to take place was last US mid terms, one state, Michigan I think, though I could be wrong, decided to do away with party gerrymandering and gave boundary changes over to a civilian non partisan comitee, the result was a dramatic change away from one party rule by the minority being broken and state government being representative of the voters for the first time. By this I mean consistently one party was getting well above 50% of the popular vote going back decades, but due to gerrymandering had not held either house for decades. <passes clean out>

Good job you let me know that, here, through the internet.

How did your brain cell interpret that from what I said?

The clue's in the words 'now' and 'immediately accessed'.
