People who start their answers to others' questions with "So ..." or "I mean ...".
- So is either an adverb or a conjunction, so to start a sentence with it by way of introducing what one is about to say is, grammatically, nonsensical; - To start with "I mean ..." is also nonsensical, as nothing has been said yet, so how can what has clearly not been said be meant?
Spare me all the "all languages evolve" tosh; either we have standards or we don't. Grrr ...

It's a big one, the 'so' thing. We talked about it here a long time ago. I'm pretty sure it comes from the States.

"So" seems to be an attention getting word. "Get ready, I'm about to say something but I want to make sure you're paying attention ".

It's no more irritating than "well ...", "like ...." or "basically, .....", all of which I know I have done.
That being said, it is still a little grating. TbF, see how many times we use "yeah, ...." at the start of our posts.

Ah, another one that grates "that being said" I mean, we've all done it.
So, is there anything we do like?

Quite like beginning a post with "You're all cunts", but it's a tad negative.

So, I’m very guilty of the “so” thing. I don’t like that I do it, but it feels less awkward as a way of starting a statement than just charging in without any context or setting any expectation that you’re going to break your silence.

Yeah. "I'm gay, mum" is a bit abrupt. "Tho... it turns out I'm, like, reeeaaallly gay, mum" somehow softens it.

Did it make it easier for her that way, more accepting?
