I see a man has won gold at ladies boxing. What an odd world we live in. I also see that the modern pentathlon is a mad but brilliant event.

The modern pentathlon remains one of the great sports. I love the run-shoot at the end. Thanks for the reminder. I haven’t managed to watch any this year and have to go and hunt it down now.

And I think this is the last one with horse cruelty. In LA they're replacing it with an obstacle course run. Which is still the skills you need, as a spy, to escape from a 19th century castle after stealing secrets, so I don't think it's too objectionable.

I'd have preferred to have given them crappy, unfamiliar bicycles like they do with horses, but you can't always get what you want.

I think among the mad events, the Modern Pentathlon is king.

Other good mad events are the Omnium and particularly the Madison in the track.

Most of the show off disco events are a bit mad but various degrees of rubbish. The breaking is particularly rubbish. The skateboard trick stuff is pretty rubbish. The bmx trick stuff is rubbish but less rubbish than the other two.

I'm not sure what else really qualifies as mad. The other cycling events are odd, but not mad. The fighting things - particularly wresting and taekwondo - are rubbish but I'm not sure mad.

I hope we'll have all got over the whole tolerance of blokes beating (and beating up) female competitors by the time the Donny Games start. Maybe he will have the balls to insist on all competitors undergoing a regularis3d chromosome test to ensure that all men are indeed born equal, and women too.

The final event just finished and all told it's been a great games, some great swimming and track and field races, even the stupid stuff like break dancing, skateboarding and surfing was still fun.

Shout out to France for trolling the idiots with a drag show of Dionysus and Greek gods having a feast, their meltdown was hillarious.

Special mention to Russia, while their attempts to distract and create outrage by triggering morons by pretending women are men, despite knowing they were in fact women, but claiming they had tests (never produced) saying otherwise. They did expose the usual TERF/transohobes to make utter fools of themselves.

GB did well and even my adopted country did better than expected, the Canadian hammer thrower was ace. China utterly dominating the diving was weird though the Yanks utterly f**k**g up the 4x100 relay, again, was weirder still. Oh and the omnithing is track cycling was just insane.

Closing ceremony then the special Olympics. Nicely done.

More Polympic pottiness .... " Valentina Petrillo is set to become the first openly transgender athlete to compete at the Paralympic Games, having been selected to represent Italy in Para-athletics in Paris.

The 50-year-old sprinter - who competes in the women's T12 classification, for athletes with visual impairments - transitioned in 2019.

Petrillo, who will run in the T12 200m and 400m, told BBC Sport that her participation at the Games would be an "important symbol of inclusion".

But Mariuccia Quilleri, a lawyer and athlete who has represented a number of fellow athletes who oppose Petrillo's participation in women's races, said inclusion had been chosen over fairness and 'there is not much more we can do'."

Good for her.

I wrote a basic supportive comment on a social media post about her.
And me, a nobody, had a bunch of TERFs in my DMs wanting to “debate” my comment.

Was watching the pole vaulting competition. When they clear the bar it looks so graceful, when they don't it looks awkward as hell.

The whole breakdancing event was quite weird.
