Banks have never been what you could call "solvent", for they have always had more out on loan than they held in savings accounts, it's how banks work, take in a savers £10 and lend it out three times, in other words banks lend money that does not exist. Over the years governments have allowed banks to increase this ratio and it worked, until now. Now what is happening is that the balloon has burst and all this money that never was, has somehow or other to materialize and thats were the the taxpayer comes in. It won't work of course, for no other reason than when the taxpayer has made up the deficit, Gordon Brown wants the banking system to start all over again, lending as they did before, which was the very reason we find ourselves in this situation. Ever decreasing circles or wot? What's to be done? The exact opposite to what is being done but that is not going to happen under this government, therefore yes, bankruptcy here we come.

But the problem is Banks are doing the exact oppisite, they are not lending , so all those viable profit making businesses that rely on bank loans to pay bills and wages find they cant operate so have to shut up shop.
More of this and the economy will be in a depression. The Governments initiative to get the banks to start lending again, but not as before were the lending was to any tom dick or harry, but to reposible people/companies that can afford to pay it back.

Last time Brown gave Banks our money to lend to us, The Banks said piss off, we want it.
Now he's doing the same again.
Brown is a desperate weasle who should call an election.

"Own up Brits , your socialism doesn't work !!!!"- - - - - Lawrence. That is fact, Lawrence. It never has in this country. It never works, not in this country or any other. The odd one or two, usually corrupt people make money in a Socialist country. This can be seen from the few Russians who are emerging with vast fotunes. Brown, Blair his dreadful wife et al. will emerge with personal fortunes.

That ABN AMRO take-over by RBS was a really clever move, wasn't it? This time we didn't even have to sail up the Thames to sink a British flagship.

More and more i'm thinking the people responsible, the bank leaders, Brown, Mandelson, Blair, the bank of England leaders etc should be put on trial for this.

so all those viable profit making businesses that rely on bank loans to pay bills and wages Cant be particularly viable or profit making if they're relying on bank loans to pay bills

'Own up Brits , your socialism doesn't work !!!!'
Don't think the monetary policy Brown and Nu Labour have been following the past decade and more has much to do with socialism, since it was merely a continuation of what Magaret Thatcher introduced and what the USA have been working with too over the past thirty years.
It's hyper-capitalism that doesn't work because it was all founded on debt
'he says as well as Woolworths, British Home stores are closing, B&Q and loads of small stores too'
He is telling you porkies. Woolworths has gone, kaput, finito, but the others mentioned are all still trading. They might have seen sales slump and issued profit warnings, but none of them are in administration and none have closed stores. There are though, lots of stores going under. Although from the high street I walk down every day to work, it seems the chain stores are faring worse than the independents with the unending sales they've mostly had since around October are getting very desperate. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few big name stores go under by the new financial year mind.
