There are days, and today is one of them, when the thought of most of the population of the planet being wiped out by plague doesn't really seem that bad. Particularly if it starts in the Dubai office of my company.

Well if pitching up at my metaphorical door with a tender due in one hour and a document in pdf form requiring extensive amendment, including of embedded pictures, doesn't merit a large dose of the bubonics then I daren't think what would.

I read it that Tarrant was saying how serious it would be if it happened in a country with a very large, dense population with many poor areas...such as India or China.

The horror disease, which killed 25 million people in medieval Europe, is understood to have been found in a militant’s body dumped at a roadside.Let's hope they don't decide to leave parts of an infected body somewhere in India, Europe, the USA, Australia, or some other place they think of as enemies of Islam.

Don't get too excited about this. Bubonic plague occurs and an infection here or there is nothing new. For people living in squalor in caves it may be a worry but otherwise ......... Some facts.. www.medicinenet.com/plague/article.htm

As long as they leave the body parts in a developed country, there will be enough antibiotics to avert a disaster! If treated there is no risk of a pandemic.

Yes, but it wouldn't be pleasant!
Also, it would be extremely bad news in some parts of the world if it was allowed to go untreated.

I agree cathy, it wouldn't be at all pleasant and untreated could result in mass loss of lives.
But radge what would a mass wipeout (because untreated that is what might happen, major loss of human lives) achieve in the World other than less mouths to feed?!

Your presuming , and I would suggest wrongly , that the powers to be wouldnt apreciate a pandemic. Of course if they could provide employment, feed and shelter the population, it would blow that theory right out of the water. As they cant provide employment and as the UK is total relient on imports to feed its population , which are going to increase in price to the extent of a tin of beans being the equivilent price of caviar, what would you suggest a government does when people are rioting on the streets after losing homes, savings and unable to feed themselves ?
