your right vhw, another fit man in the white house....it should be very interesting - israel's man, not necessarily in the way you are trying to put bertrus; if you want to go down the road that the israeli's won't listen to anybody, then perhaps it is just him, especially with his pro israel stance, can make the israelis listen.

Is that directed at me? If so, because I have a conference call later with California's thickest woman, and whilst beer in copious quantities may help me to see things on her level, I fear it would compromise my professionalism.
"if you want to go down the road that the israeli's won't listen to anybody, then perhaps it is just him, especially with his pro israel stance, can make the israelis listen."
Now that's an interesting thought.
How I would love Obama to solve the problems of the Middle East, if only for the massive poke in the eye it would be to Blair.

It's an interesting complaint. Senator Mitchell gets appointed as ME envoy, someone who'd actually achieved stuff in the past and who's decidedly more balanced about the issue than almost anyone else in power in the US.
Yet the likes of Bertie throw a hissy fit because Rahm Emmanuel is chief of staff, even though he has no direct influence at all on US policy towards Israel.
I actually think it's fairly politically astute of Barry. Get in someone the Izzies think is there man, but give him no power over the issue. But they're now going to be hard pressed to call Barry a nasty anti-semitic muslim type, even as he is in a position to begin to apply pressure.

The only way to arrive at a lasting peace in the Middle East is for Israel and Hamas to sit down around a table and...
FIND JESUS!

Which table and why would Jesus be hiding under it?

Found this in the latest edition of Jewish Week www.thejewishweek.com/viewArticle/c37_a14675/News/National.htmlThe expected appointment of a special envoy to breathe new life into Israeli-Palestinian negotiations could split the pro-Israel center while pleasing the Jewish left and outraging the right. The schism could be particularly deep if, as was widely reported this week, President Barack Obama appoints former Sen. George Mitchell to the job. Some Jewish leaders say the very qualities that may appeal to the Obama administration — Mitchell’s reputation as an honest broker — could spark unhappiness, if not outright opposition, from some pro-Israel groups................... Major pro-Israel groups “tend to favor the kind of mediator with the least prospects of success,” said MJ Rosenberg, a longtime pro-Israel activist and policy director for the Israel Policy Forum (IPF). “George Mitchell worries them because he was so successful in Northern Ireland, a success that was built on his persistence and his utterly impartiality ... and a deal means Israeli concessions which they have never favored. The stronger the candidate for envoy or mediator — the more of an honest broker he or she would be -- the more uncomfortable they are.”
