I still can't believe that people think the problem with Britain over the past 5 years was too much regulation of the financial sector; and that the solution now is to let all those jobs supported by the state sector go to the wall in order to create tax cuts for people who won't spend because they don't believe they'll have a job in a year's time so are saving like mad.
It's crazy stuff. The idea we should cut spending now, and that there's too much regulation of banks, is just utterly deranged.
Brown's faults are that he was too Tory. The solution isn't to be even more Tory.

Agree about manufacturing PC. We do make a lot of stuff at the high tech end, but we should be making more.
But "financial services industries", unfortunately, got us into this mess, so they need to be red taped until they can't breathe. Once the initial recession is over, we can't go back to the free market status quo.

Absolutely. The next election is going to be a litmus test of the political intelligence of the Great British Public. If voters say "right. These overly Tory policies have completely screwed us, not to mention to the rest of the world. What we need is loads more of them" then my last shred of faith in democracy will go out the window.

So if the recession bites really hard and Ken Clarke is wrong and the country goes bankrupt will we see Brown admitting what an incompetent he is or will he stand in the ruins and blame world economic factors beyond human control for rendering his brilliant policies useless?
What's it going to take? Omnipresent with his new name for an old deluded idiot is starting to turn away from the fat bastard and blame him for being too tory. A man who was prepared to suckle on the floppy member of the most incompetent chancellor in modern times is starting to spit instead of swallowing gratefully. Ideology still forces him to blame the tory party but Brown is obviously a fallen idol now.
Just don't blame Thatcher for having to cut and post your nads.

"And why on God's green earth they lifted the ban on short selling is beyond me."
all of this situation is obviously well beyond you, but go on have a go. Now just why would this government want the ban lifting ? Because every last thing theyre spinning you is a crock of sh*t
