I am struggling my way through The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf (part of the 'Classics series' at the library) and am tempted to just stop. Good in parts, it's not helped by the fact that no it's outdated, and it has an unbearable 'blame men' attitude and refuses to look at things objectively. But I hate stopping books half way... Your instincts were correct. Turns out, she's a thick bellend. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-50153743

I was about to say she'd be ideal for the Labour party when her writing career collapses but perhaps not these days. The BBC would suit her better.

I was somewhat surprised that matey was allowed to mansplain her ignorance to her on the BBC. It seemed like a bit of an ambush.

Bloody hell she's a total loony.
"Wolf also charged that the U.S. was dispatching military troops not to assist in treating the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa, but to carry the disease back home to justify a military takeover of America. She further said that the Scottish independence referendum, in which Scots voted to remain in the United Kingdom, was faked.[116] Speaking about this at a demonstration in Glasgow on October 12, Wolf said, "I truly believe it was rigged."[117]"

The Right Stuff - very good read despite Wolfe's writing style being rather annoying at times.
Also after reading Flashman my interest in the time and place was piqued so I picked up The Great Game by Peter Hopkirk. Excellent stuff, never got bogged down once and every page held my interest. One of the first Brits to explore the unmapped areas north of India (where they thought Russia would invade from) was Henry Pottinger, who had to travel in disguise (alternatively as a Muslim holy man and as a horse dealer). Had to dress, act and speak the parts well enough to pass himself off as such and not get robbed, killed or sold into slavery by the Turcomans all while secretly mapping out the area for several months. He was all of 20 years old. That's f**k**g impressive.

There was a fire in Trump's library.
Sadly both books were burnt - and one hadn't even been coloured in yet.

I was looking for this!
I recently finished The Stand (Stephen King). I was always too put off the size to start it but Lockdown provided the perfect excuse.
Loved it. Stephen King pre getting clean is fantastic. Although I had forgotten his tendency to kill his characters off. He rarely does not now.
Pre that I read The Silent Patient which was also pretty good.

I'm pretty sure I haven't read The Stand. Maybe I'll give it a go.

I've recently finished The Plague by Albert Camus.
Brilliantly written - but the story's a little far fetched.

The Right Stuff is a totally fantastic book. Recommend Moondust by Andrew Smith as a companion to it.
Teleportation Accident is good. I also really liked Beauman’s first book, Boxer Beetle.

Read The Stand years ago and really liked it, may have to revisit that one.

Oh yeah, another Dan Simmons book - Drood. Historical fiction revolving around Charles Dickens.
Extremely enjoyable, my favorite of his so far apart from the Hyperion series.
