Serves him right! He already had points on his licence. He should've been more careful.

I love that his wife wrote a lette rto the court, presumably to try and make things better, but actually just making him look even more of a fool.

I agree he's a bit of a girl to get his wife to write a letter but their is a broader issue in that British Motorists are unfairly victimised by our ridiculous revenue led speeding policy. I don't know KK's financial circumstances , but presumably he's able to employ a driver.
36 MPH is hardly reckless !
I don't know what his other "offences" were that resulted in his totting up but I would be surprised if they were that heinous.
If he was a Delivery Driver, Fitter,Salesman or Bus Driver he'd be looking at a lengthy spell of unemployment now with all the terrible consequences of that in our current difficult economic climate.
The Government is putting pressure on Bank's to exercise leniency on repossessing homes yet condoning this carnage on working peoples prospects to raise a few quid through local Police Authorities
Obviously dangerous drivers need to be controlled, fined and eradicated from our roads.
Regular people who experience a lack of concentration must be treated differently, fine if you must but disqualification is overkill.
Those of you on this post with a high moral stance should be careful what you wish for.
It's very, very easy to be caught by the measures being employed by your local Police.

Now you ban drivers going 6mph over the speed limit! Are you all crazy? In Vancouver seasoned officers allow from 10 to 20 Kph ( 6.25 mph to 12.5mph) before they show any interest. The more I read of your asinine speeding complex the less I want to visit Britain again. Thank god for Europe and residents with a least some grey matter between their ears.

oh dear grizzley, he wasn't banned for going 6 mph over the limit. He was given points on his lincense for that, the problem was he already had lots of points on his lisense and this tipped him over. He had too many points and so he was banned.
My mum recently got points for going 36mph in a 30 limit. SHe was taking my gran to hospital.

The whole point is there shouldn't be any points for 6 mph over the speed limit. By the way, who sets the speed limits? Traffic engineers or the local police force and council looking for an easy quick dollar?

Sorry, no gray areas - if you break the speed limit or traffic laws - points then ban - no leeway at all! Could have been someones life ended?

I think the issue with Keegan was that he already had points on his licence, so he should've been more careful not to exceed speed limits. He did and he got penalised!

The 30 mph speed limit for built up areas was introduced in 1934. Long before computers were able to compute stopping distances and optimum safe driving speeds - lucky guess ?
Since then we are told that a small increase over and above 30 mph will increase the chances of a pedestrian being killed or injured (duh).
Why not 25 mph ? .... 35 mph ? .... 40 mph ? .... It's just a random number that bears no relation to improved braking technology on modern cars.

The 20 mph limit was introduced in 1999 Libby......
A brief history of speed limits
Between 1865 and 1896 locomotives on the highway had to be preceded by a pedestrian carrying a red flag and were subject to a speed limit of 2mph in cities, towns and villages and 4mph elsewhere
On 28 January 1896, Walter Arnold of East Peckham, Kent became the first person in Great Britain to be successfully charged with speeding. Travelling at approximately 8 mph, he had exceeded the 2 mph speed limit for towns. Fined 1 shilling (5p) plus costs, Arnold had been caught by a policeman who had given chase on a bicycle so began one of the most lucrative ways of making money by Local Authorities and the Exchequer
The maximum speed limit was then increased to 14mph and again, in 1903, to 20mph.
In 1930 speed limits for cars and motorcycles were abolished.
In 1934 a general 30mph speed limit was imposed on roads in built up areas (effectively roads with street lighting) which remains to this day.
Other roads had no speed limits at all. It was not until 1965 that a national upper limit of 70mph was introduced for all roads, including motorways.
Since 1977 the speed limit for cars and motorcycles on dual carriageways has been 70mph, with a 60mph speed limit on single carriageways.
In 1999 local authorities were given the powers to introduce a 20mph speed limit without requiring the consent of the Secretary of State.

Thanks Beachy! ;D It's only recently come into force, within the last three months. Drivers still race down my road at 50mph+, it hasn't made any difference!

I reckon the 20 mph limit is just a ruse to collect more revenue from motorists. Most drivers assume the legal limit is 30 mph in a built up area (it's what the Highway Code says), they blink and miss a sign with 20 on it ..... instant fine and 3 points on your licence.

No-one has been caught yet, i fear an accident will have to happen before the authorities take note. It is like a race track where i live in spite of the 20mph signs!

A good example is in Middlesbrough. You come out of a country road, limit 50. Over a bridge across a dual carriage way. About 10 yard past the bridge is a turn, on which is posted a schools sign and a 20 limit. They regularly catch people there, mainly at weekends as the 20 is permanent. Not just at school opening hours.

I see Christiano Ronaldo has been stopped for speeding again! Very soon after writing his Ferrari off! Hope they throw the book at him this time!
