A Harrow schoolgirl was in floods of tears when her beloved hamster perished in the cold, after the council failed to fix the heating in her room. Distraught mum Tracey Mack believes her grief-stricken 12-year-old daughter Emily's pet died because Harrow Council didn't repair the youngster's bedroom heating at the family's home in Wesley Court, South Harrow. Ms Mack, 37, said: "She only got her hamster for her birthday at the start of December. My boyfriend bought her a book to wise up on hamsters and he tested her to make sure she had done her homework and was responsible enough to have one. "Every day she came home from school and the first thing she would do was go up to her bedroom and get out Aston and play with him. "She had him in a funky pink cage, and changed the food and the water. She did everything by the book." www.harrowobserver.co.uk/west-london-news/local-harrow-news/2009/02/05/harrow-council-killed-my-hamster-116451-22866231/The article goes on to say that the heating in the rest of the house was working perfectly OK. Just not in this room. Then why not move the bloody animal to a heated room?! It's hardly the council's fault if you're clever enough to feed and water it but too stupid to realise the room is too cold, maybe you should move it 5 yards into a warmer room!

Doubt it's dead.
Probably hibernating.

It says she did everything by the book, and I've got that "Caring For Your Hamster" book too. It says nothing about moving the cage from one room to another, so she did nothing wrong. Definitely the council's fault for not ensuring the room where the hamster lived was not heated constantly.

The typical uncaring attitude of a Tory council. The little girl must have been so uncomfortable in the cold as well as having the lost of her animal

"The tenant was offered a temporary heating system for the room in the meantime, but this was declined."
Hmm...

Wonder how many pensioners we've lost so far this winter. We could do with a cull of civil servant pensioners because after a working lifetime of shuffling paper in an expensive way they're still a parasitic drain on the taxpayer.
