Saw one of these on the Carlisle -Settle run a few years back in mid summer. They had to have fire engines posted at intervals along the track to control the fires ignited by sparks from the solid fuel. For all that, there is nothing quite so majestic.

i like steamers too, when my dad was young he was a fireman on one going to Wakefield, he loved it.
