Pretty much every country in the world is "reliant on imports", Yord.

The second they start printing money off , and if you want your benifits paying theyre going to have to start the presses rolling, inflation will go through the fecking roof, including food, coz guess what numb nuts, the home grown variety will last all of a few days at best.

Of course printing money causes inflation. But the only problem right now is recession and deflation. We have to help people through it at all costs.
When the recovery starts we can worry about inflation then. If they do start printing money, then good on em - we've never seen anything like this world situation before - but they can restrict money supply just as they can increase it.

How is the recovery going to start ? What with ? Exports ? Exports of what , even presuming for one gullible second that these presumed non exsistant exports can compete in a global economy, and should a miricle happen and you find something to export that cant be made cheaper and more efficent in another country , how many decades are you planing on taking to get this set up and working in ?

Your fecked if they do and your fecked if they dont. You can either starve or get caught up in anarchy

Non-existent exports? Erm - we export £300bn of stuff (and rising) every year.
You really haven't got a clue have you? Aw bless - you're not a trader by any chance are you?
Starve? Anarchy? Get a grip, kiddo.

Eh? The pound falling in value against the Euro or Yen won't affect me in the slightest unless I want to go shopping in Paris or Tokyo. < blinks rapidly > Are you unaware that most of what you consume every day is imported in some form or the other ?

Yep. But inflation is falling at the moment Feral. Prices are slowing down - the big risk going into this world recession is actually deflation.

Prices are only slowing down ,sinking even ,because people are desperately trying to get rid of stock ...trying to encourage people to buy.So what happens when they get rid of it all ??

Not just the UK that's "sinking" though is it mate? No ..everyone is ..but the pound is looking especially crap . I made a request tonight to a chinese firm .The only currencies they will deal with are US dollars ,yen or euro .They dont want to know anything about sterling.Just as well I dont have any .Even then they will only give daily price quotes . Means you dont know what you'll actually end up paying..or if your punters can afford to pay YOU ..with their own crap currency

There's nothing "especially crap" about the pound. Dollar, Yen and Euro are just the big currencies, global downturn or not. Which is why we should have joined the Euro, but there you go.
And you just have to start looking closer to home to for imported tat, hey?

Yes but a few weeks back the pound was one of the big currencies . And the problem with tat that isnt imported is that its also way too expensive ( because the manpower costs more ) and not many can afford to buy it .And the problem with tat produced at home is that many of the raw materials used to make that tat are imported. Of course ,one could say ,well heyho ..I just wont buy anything until prices stabilise again ( if ever ) but I reckon you might get a bit peckish in the meantime

Yeah but if you lose your job because of the falling pound then 5 others with get jobs because of ithe ncrease in exports.
Which is good. Not for you maybe, but for the bigger picture...

oh and sterling has never been "one of the big currencies", especially since the introduction of the euro.

ahh omni ...believe me I'd love you to be right.I'm up this late cos when I go to bed I tend to worry about how the hell I'm going to feed me and me kid if it all goes tits up.Or rather I spend an hour or two telling myself there's no point in worrying ..che sera sera and all that .I'm not a doom and gloom person but I am a realist and I cant see any good coming out of this .I am in a branch that shouldnt be affected tooooo much but I cant really afford for it to be affected at all . I get very angry cos I was just starting to do well and had breathed out .No debts ,live within my means .And cos other feckers on the other side of the ocean didnt ,I end up paying . Life is so unfair <grumble grumble >

If you have no debts and live within your means then you are sorted, mate. Think yourself lucky.
If it "goes tits up" then you just have less means to live within. Easy peasy.

LOL The means I live within have been scraped down to bare neccessities more or less ..which is fine by me ..I dont need or want anything more .But the means themselves come from what I earn ...if that goes down too much then there isnt enough there for bare neccessities even.My alternative then is to go on the social and work on the side ..which might actually bring more in than now but it isnt an alternative I relish..being the proud, stupid git that I am . Anyway ,off to bed and to read a light, easy book that is fiction through and through
