tbh, I think people have too much time on their hands these days and are bored witless. Phoning to complain about any little thing is the best chance of excitement some are ever going to get. We lot are OK, we can just vent it out in here.............

It's clearly not the same thing. One is racist, the other is a joke at the expense of a politician.
It's the same thing as the Clarkson-incident. Complete non-story.
I think I might complain to the BBC about how much they're reacting to all kinds of tin pot things and how utterly pathetic and weak they are at standing up for their presenters in the face of manufactured tabloid outrage.

Phil Jupitus' remark sounds a bit sexist.

If you can't see a difference between racism and making fun of a politician's title then I don't see any point at all in bothering to explain it. I could well understand how "burn the witch" is offensive in as much as it uses a derogatory term for women and incites violence, but the only objection I could see to the Lady Thatcher remark is that it's a bit fruity. And only Stephen "punch me hard now" Green could be prudish enough to be really bothered by that.

Don't worry, Sushi. I'm not going back to it. Just saying they're not the same. It's the same as the Clarkson thing. A complete non-point.

Anyway, is anyone surprised at this from the left wing media organisation, the BBC? It's pretty typical really.

By the way, (semi) serious question. Is sexism not as bad as racism?

By the way, (semi) serious question. Is sexism not as bad as racism? I think it's "not as bad" in the sense that it isn't as widely prevalent and damaging. Generally manifests itself in the form of lower pay/reduced employment opportunities, and seeing as I suspect that also has something to do with women's tendency to sod off for a year to have a baby promising a return that never happens, I think sexism as a societal problem is largely dealt with.

You could make a similar argument about racism though. It exists but it's not really prevalent enough to damage society very much. Individuals sometimes suffer it but all in all, it's not much of a worry.

Hmm. I couldn't make that case for Britain, it seems to me increasingly preoccupied with race (and/or nationality). But if you can, go for it, I'd like to think otherwise.

Here we go - they are lining up at the tape - and they're OFF!!!! We've been here and done all this! well I did put a giggle in front of my post . Then I sat back and waited for Andy, and VHW especially, to get pompously condescending about it

I didn't mean to be condescending. I genuinely think if you haven't got it by now you won't, no matter how many hours I dedicate to trying to explain it. Not because you're not intelligent enough but because you just won't.

As it happens and completely by the by I was having a think about racism the other day and coming to the conclusion that certain words being " socially unacceptable " does nothing at all to help racism .You just end up with a bunch of racists who talk politely .That bunch that start everything off with " I'm not racist( cos I dont use socially unacceptable words ) but ...." I'd far rather they realised they were.
