I don't think the tone of debate in the UK, which often appears to be along the lines of "Look, I'm not racist but I do think we should throw all Muslims out of the country and foreigners shouldn't be allowed to get jobs unless there are no British citizens available to do them" helps with that either. A nation where people actually defend the right of a presenter to describe black people as golliwogs has a long way to go IMHO.

Hmm. I couldn't make that case for Britain, it seems to me increasingly preoccupied with race (and/or nationality). But if you can, go for it, I'd like to think otherwise. Britain is definitely more preoccupied than race than it used to be but in a petty, quibbling way. I think most of the big issues regarding race have been settled but the race warriors can't seem to accept that so do all they can to keep the ball rolling, to the detriment of us all.

Yup.
We were making good progress, but then the heroic anti-PC warriors decided to go off on one, and we're now at a point where even the BNP can claim that they "aren't racist, they're just anti-PC".
Long, long way to go.

They are getting fed up to the teeth being discriminated against and treated as second class if they happen to be white.

"discriminated against and treated as second class if they happen to be white"
Hoho. I'm not racist, but I do subscribe to the same dangerous myths as the BNP.

You're quite right there feral! People who need to justiify their opinions and views by saying "I'm not rascist but . . . . ?!" are actually in denial. By even saying that expression and then spouting on about race and religion etc in a defamatory manne, they are indeed rascists! Wake up!

dangerous myths as the BNP. Oh the old BNP argument. Nice try. White people are at a disadvantage because we can be prosecuted and persecuted for using words, even in jest that non-white people use regularly. Capish?

Are you under the impression that if, say, an Asian racially abuses a white person they will not be prosecuted? Because if so let me put your mind at ease - you're entirely wrong.

They are getting fed up to the teeth being discriminated against and treated as second class if they happen to be white. I mean, you just need to look at our media, or the various levels of government. You need to look at the top ranks in the civil service and all those people in senior position in the cabinet and shadow cabinet. You need to look at all our major business leaders, all the major talking heads on TV and in the press. You can see the massive, massive, massive discrimination against white people that stops white people getting to the top and becoming opinion formers. Frankly, it's astonishing that, in this repressive society, that any white person at all makes it as far as the rank of janitor.

Me point was ,more or less, libby that I think an awful lot of people use that expression and genuinely think they arent racists because they dont use unacceptable words to describe someone of a different race.Treat them with respect ,like .Meself ,I think its far more disrespectful to think a whole race is going to be offended by one word ...a word that isnt considered disrepectful when its applied to a different race .Its reverse racism and just as bad ,if not worse ,than " normal " racism Cue Omni or VHW saying I'm fighting for the right to call a black a golliwog .I'm not .I think its offensive to call someone a golliwog JUST BECAUSE THEYRE BLACK.However if you genuinely thought that one person looked just like a golliwog and said same I can accept that that could be taken offensively ( cos who the feck wants to be compared to a golliwog ) but I see no reason to take it as racist . May I just add here that I have no idea what Carol thatcher actually said or meant so I aint referring to her .

Massive discrimination in public services though. You get extra points in the social housing queue if you have black or brown skin or a foreign accent. If you are Muslim you get triple points. This is just FACT.

No I'm under the impression that if a white person says someone's hair looks like a gollywog they can be persecuted. While 3500 Muslims can wander around London carrying banners saying they want to kill us and almost nothing was done. I'm under the impression that if I say to a black guy, 'Hey Blackey', I stand a pretty good chance of being prosecuted while a black guy can say 'Hey, Whitey'. I'm under the impression that many white British people feel they need to tread carefully with non-white people for fear of offending them. And I know for a first hand fact that large numbers of decent non-white British people are throughly embarrassed by the whole thing.

Clearly you are as well-informed on legal matters as you are on Darwinian theory. I don't have time for this now, if I get a chance I'll come back to you tomorrow to correct your errors.

I can't believe some people feel that "not being an offensive, racist dickwad out of common bloody courtesy" is "persecution" or being forced to "tread carefully".
Gobsmackingly backwards.

What? Racist to use the word racist here? Bizarre, Feral. Very bizarre.
But yes, people should not be offensive out of common courtesy. That is, effectively, what PC asks. In the particular instance in this case, it's about not being a racist dickwad out of common courtesy.
In other cases it might be about not being a mysoginistic dickwad, or homophobic dickwad, or whatever. But basically, in each case, it's about not offending people out of common courtesy.
