"Its gobsmackingly backward and racist to put the word racist in there"
Woah. Anti-logic vortex.

Why cant people just not be offensive out of common courtesy ? Exactly. Courtesy and formality are part of British culture. Most non-white British people appreciate this. But to persecute someone for comparing hair to a gollywog is preposterus.

It doesnt really ask though does it ? It more or less demands it and then presumes that all sorts of people are going to get offended by all sorts of words and attempts to remove them from everyday use .Such a viscious circle that the words actually ARE then considered offensive by a great many people whereas they weren't before .
Ach it's alll down to responsibility again isnt it ? We're turning into a society where people dont need to have any for themselves

PC is just common sodding deceny. Calling a spade a spade. Racism is racism, and it's offensive, and it's out of order. Simple.

Its not ...it's telling you how and when you should be "decent" according to someone elses measures -instead of leaving the responsibility with you to decide .

It's not "telling" anyone "anything". It's just simple common decency - don't be a racist cock. Don't go out of your way to offend people. Etc.
I have no idea why some people have such a problem with not being racist and not being offensive.
Does the fact that insulting people because of their race or whatever is frowned on really make you feel so persecuted?

Yes racism is racism and very offensive.
It is an offense to human decency and to us all for anyone to find themselves being discriminated against for irrelevancies.
That makes the racism against white British people all the more offensive.
That makes the embarrassment of non-white British people all the more acute.
That makes positions such as yours, which I suspect are motivated by partisan loyality than rational consideration, all the more offensive and preposterus.

Its most certainly telling you something -its telling you what words you can use without feeling frightfully frightfully bad about using them . I dont feel persecuted at all .I wont let it tell me what I should or shouldnt call someone ...I'll use me head and decide for meself what is acceptable or not in any given situation . Shame you cant use yours in the same way l

If PC has had the impact of making people feel "frightfully" bad about using racist and offensive words, then it's a bloody good thing in my book. Because the less of that sh!t there is, the better the world will be.

I suppose the problem kicks in when you've decided for yerself that something isn't offensive, but it is to someone else regardless of what you think. If you keep using it to them, you're an ill-mannered cnut, I can't see any two ways about it.
I mean I swear more than most but if someone asks me to stop I will try to refrain in their presence. Even if I think they're being a prissy arse.

You wouldnt immediately presume that every single person was a prissy arse and offended by your swearing .You judge a situation as it comes .PCness is more or less saying " we dont think youre capable of judging a situation so to save you the bother of thinking we'll decide for you that all these words are offensive to all people all the time "

Well given that there are still people arguing (a week later n all) that referring to a black bloke as a gollywog isn't actually offensive or racist really, it's bleeding obvious that some people can't judge a situation and need Nanny State to hold their hand as they navigate the difficult course of social interaction. Sad but there you are.

SOOOO spot on.
You should apply some of that spot-onness to the Labour / Tory question rather than wobbling on about your pointless liberal fetishess, you know...

I think I have lost the will to live to such an extent that I probably won't survive the next thirty-seven minutes anyway, so my vote or lack thereof is irrelevant.
For what it's worth, people in legal recruitment manage to combine the cnutiness of lawyers and recruitment consultants and if you can't manage to avoid them for the duration of your life I recommend you punch them, hard and in sensitive places.

Legal recruitment. It's like a perfect storm of cnutishness. I can't imagine many worse combinations. Minister for Estate Agent Journalism? Stephen Gerrard's investment fund manager?
I'm bloody knackered today. I've avoided more work than I have done in ages. So much for the recession.

I see omni is still bringing the bnp up here there and every thread. Maybe the rise in support for them is getting to him? More ppl are leaning to bnp and ukip these days. I wonder why? Cant say they are all racists. More like folks sick of the PC brigade and mass immigration.

The BNP represent everything that is wrong with the anti-PC warriordom that has raised it's ugly head with this Thatcher thing.
The oh-so-heroic anti-PC brigade have legitimised genuine racism and prejudice to an increasingly worrying degree.
