I agree with your sentiment icas ;D
I suppose i could say St Pauls and the other cathedrals would at least have been places of worship, so would have provided a purpose. I am not sure a horse provides a purpose at this grand scale?! Perhaps i am missing the point . . . ?

Actually I'm not sure what I mean lol. If you visit grand Cathedrals they tell you how many workmen perished making the nave[sp] But we've got them anyway. We need something to inspire us I suppose. This economic cycle will go back and forth for the foreseeable future. It's all happened before. When the tax burden becomes too heavy people can no longer buy material goods and concentrate on food. It isn't the first time this has happened.

No it's not normal feral i have to agree with you there. Even the Angel Of The North only cost £800,000 says she with tongue in cheek! Down South it's going to cost £2M for a horse! www.aboutbritain.com/Angel-Of-The-North.htm

"It isn't the first time this has happened."
isnt it ? , I would suggest that the reverse is the norm. This was the first time that the traditional peasant ever stood half a chance of thinking theyd better their life.

Stood a chance of thinking? Or thinking they stood a chance? Two things in life are real- death and taxes. "Render to God that which is God's and render to Caesar that which is Caesar's."

STOP IT - STOP IT - STOP IT - NOW !
I could vent my spleen for an hour over this colossal waste of time and money. The so called Angel of the North is just a giant pile of rusting steel (any half decent shipyard welder could've knocked up a better one in a shift)......This giant horse is just a homage to one mans vanity and the gullibility of the public purse to fund it.
YES, we need artistic icons - but not this pile of crap !
