"But there are fewer and fewer and fewer politically aware / interested people."
And now is the perfect time to re-engage the rest brother.
As Ed Ballbags stated, we're entering a defining time for politics (Although I suspect he might have been using the spectre of the far-right to scare people into voting Nu Labour) and the links between politics, employment, society, etc will soon refocus minds that have been sated with an Eloi-like culture. Help them along.
Hazel Blears is utterly vile by the way

Backing the Uzbek government is a bloody outrage. Read Murder in Samarkand by Craig Murray. I've no doubt it is, but I also don't think a "did you hear" story from a journalist equates to strong reasoning as to why. I just think a lot of it is a simplistic balck and white rant and politics in't black and white.

It's just a list of Policies George Doesn't Like, isn't it?
Hazel Blears is fantastic.

Craig Murray is former ambassador to Uzbekistan, not just a journalist.

To some extent, but it's also a damning list of how Blears has been an abject 'Yes' woman. Much like the rest of the 'Blair Babes' and Nu Labour drones

He seems very surprised that a government minister usually votes with the government in parliament. Anyway, this is a pathetic attempt to smear the wonderful Hazel Blears. Who's got more political conviction - Omni or Hazel?

Rubbish. The politically aware are becoming more engaged with pressure groups etc, because of the crapness of democracy. But there are fewer and fewer and fewer politically aware / interested people. The crapness of democracy? What's your suggestion comrade?

Benign dictatorship.
Or proper democracy.

Bit of spine perhaps. Principles? A common direction in which Blears may be moving (Other than what is good for Hazel)?

"Principles?"
Perhaps she agreed with all those Policies George Doesn't Like?

So she didn't agree with an elected House of Lords and took a principled stand to defend her beliefs right up to the point where she changed them and decided she did agree with a fully elected House of Lords?

Hmmm, or do you think she was showing the 'guts' needed to get in the Cabinet?
That's guts reached by way of an eager tongue up the anus I reckon.
Good podcast from Mark Thomas on the Guardian site today incidentally. Time he was back on the telly and reaching a larger audience again.

Some people on this board have severe psychological problems. The latter two have put images in my head that will take year of extreme and expensive therapy to remove.
