Rick, your obsessive stalking is starting to make you come across as a bit of a freak. If you want to sleep with me or something, just ask. Wow, that is so gay!!

" A beautiful example of that is on immigration. Very few people think that immigration is a problem where they live. Huge amounts of people think it's a problem elsewhere, and nationally generally. Simply because they read the papers and watch the telly, and they tell them it is. "
You dweeb. That's you seeing something on TV and refusing to believe it so you tell yourself that it's not true. Then invent a reason for people to be wrong in believing it even though they live in places where it's fcuking obvious. You aren't going to miss your knackers at all because you'll just keep believing that they're still there. In fact you probably already do believe that they're still there. I'm beginning to doubt it.

I think he is right on immigration. If you look at the surveys it tends to be "Do you think immigration is a problem in your town" and people say no, but "Do you think immigration is a problem in Britain" and people say yes, I'm very concerned about it.

Sadly, the question is not asked:
What do you think immigration is?

Aye. Even the economy at the moment - we're all hugely massively concerned about the economy going tits up and everyone losing their jobs on the one hand. Yet on the other hand most people feel secure in their jobs.

I read a CIPD survey recently where something like 80-odd percent of those surveyed (managers and business owners) were very concerned about the economy and redundancies and everything being just howwid, but when asked if their own company was likely to perform worse financially in the next quarter only 20% said yes.
People just worry a lot.

Translation: Rick, your brilliant insight has seen through my childish ploys and is now making me doubt the firm convictions I have held ever since the operation. I feel threatened and uncomfortable and other strange emotions that violate my human rights in a way that I would only allow Gordon Brown to do to me. Please stop before I find myself wanting to be a man.

And another one - about 90% of people who use the NHS are happy with the service they get.
Ask people in a national survey whether the NHS is being run well, and huge numbers of people say no.
People form their big picture views on the basis of headlines in the papers, basically.

Perception Management Strategy #1. Blame the media for hysterical hype.

People form their big picture views on the basis of headlines in the papers, basically. And they tend to adopt the opinions that they believe are socially acceptable. Complaining about the NHS will generally not bring many objections. Not complaining about the government generally will.

Well it's not so much "blame". It's just the way it is. It's a pretty sad state of affairs, but what can you do?

Is it?
Dirty hospitals??
Hospitals are considerably cleaner now than they were 30 years ago when I first started working in the NHS

Yet on the other hand most people feel secure in their jobs. Hmm, that's probably the "it'll never happen to me" syndrome. If you'd have run that survey in the banking sector a year ago, I'm sure that 100% of those asked would have said they felt extremely secure in their jobs. Similarly with the construction industry, which was showing no sign of slowdown then. I really can't believe that 'most people' would feel confident about job security at present. 'Most people' would have to be deluded to answer the question in that way at the present time. The reality is that in 'most sectors' redundancy can hit anyone at any time, either by cost cutting measures, or by the liquidation of their employer's business.

Hospitals are considerably cleaner now than they were 30 years ago when I first started working in the NHS I can then take it that you've never worked at the Ipswich General (first ever UK case of a new born baby dying of MRSA), or the James Paget Hospital in Norfolk, where wards have been closed due to health scares. When my mum was in the Royal London Hospital in east London, I couldn't believe the state of the place. I even noticed how infrequently the nursing staff bothered to use the antibacterial handwash facilities as they moved from one patient to another. Absolutlely disgusting!

Well I found a job based in Gothenburg today which is so suited to me that if I don't get offered an interview, or possibly even the job based solely on my exactly matched CV, I will dedicate the rest of my life to hunting down everyone involved in the recruitment process and peeing on their favourite jackets.

Well, you sound so ladylike, and have such a wonderful turn of phrase, I'm sure they'll offer you the job on the spot without even bothering with the interview process. At least I would if I was in charge of that job's recruitment process.

I was just about to give you my permission to use that glowing reference, but then thought I'd run your signature through a web based translation service. Yous får manifest me respect hora , self vet each till cottage ought and self känner your ring upWell, if you're going to be like that, you can go whistle for a reference from me now. It all sounds a bit homophobic to me. No way could I be associated with someone who thinks like that.

I'm quite disappointed to learn that a forward looking, lefty country like Sweden has vacancies for pointless Atlanticist economy 'service industry' jobs like "recruitment"...

I know. And I thought Sweden only provided jobs at Ikea, Volvo or as Abba roadies. All my illusions of Scandinavia are now in tatters.
